I have a pesky little icon that keeps flashing and every 10 minutes a balloon appears telling me I have spyware problems and I need to go to a site to download and pay for anti-spyware to remove it.

I have run AVG free edition, Spybot and ad-aware, but that little %^$#@!# icon is still flashing away, if I click on the balloon it opens www.spylocked.com and I am asked to pay for anti-spyware.

Any advice on how to rid myself of this pest ?

I cannot use webroot spy sweeper as I have already previously used the free trial.

P.S. That will teach me to try to download free porn!!! :o

If it's the site I think it is then be careful!

They basically demanded payment and buggered up my computer when I declined to purchase there product.

Google "C Cleaner' or "Crap cleaner" ( Might be one word) and you will get a free removal tool or try 'system restore' to a point before you were 'invaded' !

Ccleaner is available at Filehippo.com along with a bunch of other great free software.

Find out the name of the program that's pestering you and google it.

You'll probably find it discussed in some tech help forum on the web along with removal instructions.

Remember for safer browsing use Firefox. There are 3 great extensions for it called cookiesafe (disables all cookies then you add sites to your list that you wish to accept cookies from. Can also allow for session or temporaraly accept.)

Noscript (disables loading of scrips on web pages)

Flashblock (disables flash mocies/animations from playing on you page. you can hit the play button to make it play if you want to.)

and last but not least surf with a firewall. the default one with XP SP2 is better than nothing but I would recommend zone alarm free, which is also available on filehippo.com

good luck getting rid of that bug

I advise you to get a better Antivirus. Antivir is also free but has a very high rate of detection where AVGs is average at best. A good antivirus should have gotten something this common.

You need to run Smitfraud to remove it. You can get detailed instructions on it's implementation here;
