Wait before the haters climb aboard me please hear me out.

I just got back from my trip to see QUEEN in Korea.

It was 2 trips in 1.  My first and my last.

We travelled Asiana which is a nice airline.  Immigration in both countries was great we there was almost no wait in either countries to get through.

AIrport buses definitely Korea has a better system as they have highway coaches that travel to different parts of the city and will drop you off.  Think Baht bus in Patts on a larger scale.

Thai people have a better overall knowledge of English and are more friendly and willing to assist.

Taxi's if you don't have the taxi app on your phone and a Korean sim card good luck trying to get a taxi.  It is almost impossible to hail a cab.

The hotel we dealt with which was a "4 star" international chain had limited ability to provide assistance or food.

Overall I found that there is a definite disdain for tourists or foreign people.  The ability to speak English considering that this is supposed to be an international business country was 0 as well as the ability to get assistance.

The whole time I was the only thing I could think of and my Thai gf agreed was that it was nice to land at swampy and get back to a country that actually wanted to help and be friendly.

As to the atmosphere in the country it is going through major corruption, the government in charge is doing everything it can to control the country and those that disagree are removed.  Sound familiar

I have heard that farangs with asian wives can sometimes get the cold shoulder in Korea as they often assume she is a 'scarlet woman'.

They wouldn't be a 'farang' in Korea. Are you Thai?

EXPAT

My point is that what we read here may be true for some areas but there are definitely worst places to live and Korea is on of them.  We very rarely on here read good tings about Thailand and BKK but this is a case where praise is deserved.

I have four countries that I frequent, US where I live, Thailand , my wife is from there and also I live there part of the time, Greece we have friends and family there,  and Italy friends and family there.

We also visit other countries, but I alway feel more comfortable, and at ease when I return to these countries because I am familiar with the systems there, have become accustomed, and know how to deal with the peculiarities of those countries. Every time I return to these four countries I feel like a weight is lifted from me, I am safe I am home,

Are they the best countries? probably not, but they are the best for me.

I think the OP is experiencing a bit of that.

I have lived in the Pakistan and travelled to Germany, India Thailand and many locations in the US as well as I have known many Afghans including Taliban.  I agree with what you said and am willing to admit tht the hotel even though it as I said is supposed to be 4 star was the hotel from HELL may have had something to do with it.  I have spoken to friends that travel to korea and they tell me that Seoul is the worst city to visit because of the attitude of the people.  Living in Canada we have cities or parts of cities like Montreal and Quebec wher if you do otn parle Francais service can suck but even there there is service and people to help you if you are trying.

Just wondering if you have been to Korea and what your thoughts were of it.
