Visa Options

Hi  All

I flew to the uk with my thai wife & daughter for xmas & new year (im a uk citizen), I stayed in the uk whilst my wife & daughter flew back to Thailand ,now I will be returning but I only have my return flight to Thailand ,my non o multi entry visa which I have been doing for the last few years has expired & I can no longer get a non o multi entry from london

Can I get a 6 month tourist visa from Glasgow & fly with that or will I need an onward flight ticket (Im planning on getting a marriage visa from savannaket when I get to Thailand ) to cover me for a year

I do not have the 400,000 baht for a marriage visa in thailand

Cheers

No need to get a multiple entry tourist visa that allows unlimited 60 day entries for 6 months from the date of issue. You would have show 5000 pounds in a bank for 6 months when you apply for it.

You could could get a single entry non-o visa at the consulate in Glasgow.

And then extend the 90 day entry from it for 60 days to visit your wife.

Then go to the consulate in Savannakhet, Laos or in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and apply for a multiple entry non-o visa with no financial proof being needed.

If you have all the required documents for a Non O, you can scan and email them to the Glasgow consulate, they will be forwarded to London for approval and when that comes through, you can go to the consulate by arrangement and the visa will be issued while you wait.

Email them first, Kay is very helpful, but only single entry Non O are available.

Hi

Thanks for that but I would need a multi entry as I am back & forth to Thailand many times a year for 1 month  at a time

As suggested by UbonJoe and TFC you can apply for the Single-Entry 90-day Non Imm O Visa in Glasgow.

And you can extend that Visa for with 60 days at a local IO for 1.900 THB.

Should you need to exit Thailand during the Visa validity, you can secure your permission to stay by getting a Re-Entry Permit at your local IO or at the departure hall of the main thai airports (costs 1.000 THB for single-entry).

Consider the 90-day (+ possible 60 day extension) as your first step, and for the 2nd step plan a visit to Savannakhet or HCMC to apply for a Multi-Entry Non Imm O - marriage Visa, which when timed right can provide you with 15 months stay in Thailand (and can also be extended with 2 months).

Note: When the 1-year validity of the ME Non Imm O - marriage Visa has expired, you will once again need Re-entry permits to keep your permission to stay 'alive' when exiting and re-entering Thailand.

The above scenario will give you 3 months + 2 months extension + 15 months + 2 months extension, so a total of 22 months or almost 2 years.

You don’t need to get a visa. Travel and enter with visa exemption which gives you 30 days. That can be extended by 60 if necessary. At the end of the 30, or during the 90, you can go to Savannakhet for the ME Non O.

If you’re going to apply for a visa you should get a SE Non O; also extendable by 60 days.

Personally I’d use the VE route and go to Savannakhet ASAP. There’s no telling how long the ME visa will be available.

As you are obviously NOT a tourist, then that kind of visa is not appropriate and if you try to enter on one, refusal could be on the cards.

@ubonjoe has suggested your best route as to where to get a MULTIPLE entry Non 0 and it's NOT the UK any longer.

Hi , I don't  think I can enter  with visa exempt as I am flying into Thailand  on my return  ticket & you need a return  ticket or onward flight and can't  enter with a one way ticket

If the airline you travel with insist on an onward flight you can buy a cheap throwaway ticket to anywhere. Not all airlines do insist.

Immigration won’t be interested in your onward flight.

Yes, they've been going for years. Embassies and consulates do not - as a rule - check the validity of a ticket so people get away with using these fraudulent tickets.

The only problem could come if you are denied entry and the IO is trying to validate the fraudulent ticket for deportation, but that is highly unlikely as they - as a rule - just send you back where you came from and wouldn't be looking for you to use the fraudulent ticket.

in regards to the onwards ticket out of thailand .......as the concern is the check in desk at your departure airport ....is it not possible to tell them that you intend to leave Thailand overland and travel thru adjoining countries by road ...and then eventually at some time in the future, you will purchase a ticket "home" ???

Possible maybe. It depends on the airlines policy.

Some don't ask, some insist on an onward ticket dated within 30 days, some might accept proof of a bus/train ticket, some might let you sign a disclaimer confirming you pay the cost of deportation if denied entry.

Can I state this ONE last time. I fly in/out every couple of weeks. If your flying into Thailand without a visa, reentry permit etc and plan is to obtain entry visa exempt, the airline WILL require onward flight. Bus etc will not cut it.

If enter via border then onward or any exit not required.

It is possible to show onward flight under 60 days by explaining to check in staff that you plan to apply for 30 day extension. Have also seen this happen when someone applied setv at Saigon and onward flight post 60 day but less than 90. Same reason.

Before people jump in. Yes some folk have not needed to show onward flight. Lucky.

Have you enough frequent flyer miles for an award ticket, sometimes they can be economical to book and change or cancel. Depends which airline and if it is a low tax route.

Is that a joke. Sorry but I hate posts like this. A typical flight to somewhere like KL or Saigon is cheaper than frequent credits.

First up the OP most likely does not have any. Same as me and I fly every few weeks.

The concern for the airline, is you will rejected by Thai immigration and the carrier will be fined and be responsible for returning you. The Thai immigration can ask to see a ticket. Telling them you intend to buy one (if asked) would not cut it.

You can always get a re-entry permit to keep your "permission to  stay" date valid.
