PHUKET: Vachira Phuket Hospital has set up a “Respiratory disease screening point” where people can be checked to see if they have contracted the Wuhan coronavirus after the hospital was inundated with more than 100 people presenting themselves each day to see if they had been infected.

The move to set up the centre is to stop public fears of coronavirus getting out of control, Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol said yesterday (Feb 5).

The centre is open 8:30am to 10pm every day, Dr Chalermpong told The Phuket News.

Exactly the type of place to avoid - go elsewhere with any other injury/illness.

Ridiculous. The hospital is acting proactively. Go elsewhere? Where, Starbucks?

Aussie Bob is correct. Treat your symptoms at home. Admit yourself to hospital only if your symptoms are severe - Temperature 40+, difficulty in breathing.

Holidays are off the cards for us.

Have to take the youngest daughter to an English presentation tomorrow in the big city closest to our village, i.e. an hours drive, not looking forward to being next to people, achoo, cough, cough, splatter...lol

They set up a center where people who think that they might carry the virus come together ... to spread the virus more easily ?

Better not to go there ...

This are incomplete information

What they are testing? How they are testing? How long does it takes the get the result?

100 per day is a large number, previous reports states Thailand has the capacity of 4 -5 tests per day only.

So what are the common symptoms of the 100 per day people searching for medical advice?

So what are the criteria to become a "person under investigation" ?

Another poster mentioned that beds in his private hospital are complete occupied.

How are the situation in all of the Puket hospitals?

Looks like a world leader in virus protection from the photo????

The numbah one place in the world to be the early bird and catch the virus, outside Wuhan. Hubbahubba.

Many countries have handled the coronavirus outbreak very poorly.  Yes, the coronavirus outbreak needs to be taken seriously.  Thailand chose to respond with fake news releases.  But, the media is creating undue fear and panic with its self-serving reporting.  Examining the math will reveal that the risks of exposure and death or very, very small.

China’s Hubei province, has a population of almost 60 million.  There have been many reports of 25,000 ++ cases with 500+ deaths.  That’s a 2% fatality rate.  This means there’s a ¼ of 1% chance of getting the virus and a 2% of dying from it if you have it.  And, that’s using the numbers Wuhan numbers.  Much lower odds around the world.

So, the math of it all says a caution is warranted, for certain.  But, the odds of catching and dying from it are so high, why is the world panicking?  Is it because News agencies need something to keep people watching by scaring the hell out of people?

Could the coronavirus mutate if a vaccine can't be found in time?

As scientists race to trace out paths the virus might take we ask the crucial questions

its far more contagious than ebola so thats why theyre panicking in the corridors of power so despite the low rate more will be infected
