Except for a few cases like shouting fire in a crowded theater or making specific threats speech was very free. For Americans and non-citizens alike. Now it's not. Voicing unpopular opinions invites direct retaliation from the government. -

Nakhon Ratchasima Unveils 'Triple Heritage Ring Road' to Boost Tourism
File photo for reference only A vibrant initiative titled "Triple Heritage Ring Road" has launched in Nakhon Ratchasima, aiming to stimulate tourism and bolster the local economy by promoting visits to the province's three Unesco heritage sites. This initiative was introduced early this month at Central Nakhon Ratchasima shopping mall, positioning the area as a hub for cultural and natural exploration. The heritage sites featured in this campaign include the Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, and the Khorat Global Geopark. Chonbanlue Watthaphan from the provincial tourism and sports office emphasised that this campaign aligns with Thailand’s ambitious 20-year national strategy. This strategy is designed to cultivate a creative economy, thereby enhancing the country's tourism competitiveness and supporting infrastructure conducive to sustainable tourism. Deputy Governor Somkiat Wiriyakulnan underscored Nakhon Ratchasima's strategic importance as a gateway to the Northeast. He pointed out that ongoing transport and infrastructure improvements are key to transforming the province into Thailand's welcoming "reception room" for visitors, encouraging more trips to its rich array of attractions. Kasira Songmuang, representing the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), affirmed the bureau's commitment to bolstering efforts to promote these heritage sites. She noted plans to organise training for local businesses, helping them to elevate their offerings to meet the needs of both tourism and business visitors. Chaiwat Wongbencharat, a member of the project committee, revealed future plans for Nakhon Ratchasima to host the 2029 International Horticultural Exposition. This landmark event will feature itineraries that make exploring the Unesco sites seamless for international visitors. The exposition, anticipated to attract 4 million visitors, promises significant economic impact—projected to generate about 19 billion baht and create over 36,000 jobs. Set under the theme "Nature and Greenery: Envisioning the Green Future," the expo will run from 10th November 2029 to 28th February 2030. Thailand was awarded the hosting rights by the International Association of Horticultural Producers, securing its position as a leading destination for international horticultural showcases. This comprehensive plan aims not only to attract visitors but also to empower local businesses, enabling them to offer products and services that mirror the unique identity of the heritage sites, ensuring memorable experiences for all who journey to Nakhon Ratchasima, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2025-04-17 -
