A PRISON has been placed on lockdown today after an inmate collapsed in his cell with suspected coronavirus after returning from a Thai jail.

The lag is believed to have been banged up in Thailand before being transferred to Bullingdon prison in Bicester, Oxfordshire. An entire wing at the jail has been shut off with three cons now being tested for the deadly disease.

A source told MailOnline: "The entire wing is currently in lockdown and will be for the next 72 hours or so. "That means that prisoners will remain in their cells for the duration and will be fed food on plates pushed through their door hatches."

The source explained that the stricken prisoner was being treated at a “specialist hospital” outside of the prison walls. They added: “He is understood to have recently arrived at Bullingdon from a jail in Thailand under a transferral scheme.

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage, they're keeping a special eye on anyone who's returned from Asia and has a cold or flu right now but the regular cold / flu season is still in full swing.

The results of the test will be interesting.

They need to, 3 times the prison population of the UK.

Outbreak of Covid-19 in a Thai prison will condemn the prison population and guards to infection and death. Considering the number of inmates with TB, HIV and other ailments, a large number will die.

AMAZING.

this case proves how dangerous is the situation in thailand, and how dangerous it is

to hide the truth.

a pandemic breakout in jail is the nightmare of any country.

God help us all.

God help thailand.

i am not trying to be dramatic here.

something huge, dark and scary is walking behind the scenes.

Scary to contemplate the possible effects of this, including the potential for overwhelming the entire health/hospital system in dealing with it.

Probably tried out spice for the first time

Coronavirus UK: ‘Drug-dealing kingpin’ extradited from Thailand at centre of suspected outbreak at high-security jail

AN alleged drug-dealing kingpin is at the centre of a suspected corona-virus outbreak at a high-security jail.

Mark Rumble, 31, arrived back in the UK on January 27 after being extradited from Thailand to face charges of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

I thought he'd be nice and warm and cosy in an English jail

Which seems to suggest that in Thailand there's a lack of checking / screening somewhere in the check-in / boarding etc., processes.

So he left Thailand on 26/27 and he’s only become symptomatic now 14/15 days later?

If Corona was in Thai prisons and spreading person to person back then the story being told by Thai government is fairly wide of the mark. That was before the time of the first confirmed Chinese to Thai transmission of a cab driver - meanwhile it was already in the Thai prison system? Seems there is more to this story OR he doesn’t have Corona

Like in WW 2, could be a target population to do experiments with this virus...

Huh? There is no real screening at all. I say that as someone who has been in and out of Thailand a few time’s in the last couple of weeks. (I didn’t fly in from China though).

From what I read I think they have bigger problems in Thai jails, TB being one of them

There is no bandwidth (or for that matter speed when it comes to flights) to do random testing on people that are not already being traced or suspected cases (suspected cases: Before testing for Coronavirus they would have to run tests they do have bandwidth to rule out other ailments with similar symptoms).

Actually I think a more reasonable estimate of the mortality rate (once the <deleted> hits the fan) is 3%ish when you adjust the confirmed cases to match confirmed deaths and subtract those that would not have been serious enough to be counted.   Once you have a flood of cases the ability to provide oxygen to severe cases will be problematic since there would likely not be enough supply.

I think it is quite clear from the Korean person that the virus has broken containment in Thailand and thus traceability will not do as much to stop the virus.  It works when you have it reasonably contained.

Also, I suspect the authorities have known it was already an issue in prisons since there was some concern voiced a number of days ago.  In other words, they are not giving the whole picture.
