Pheu Thai party spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ard has challenged the excuses offered by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan and Interior Minister Anupong Paochai justifying their continued stay in military welfare housing, despite having retired from the military service.

The Prime Minister cited security concerns for his continued stay in a military compound after his retirement, while General Prawit claimed he, in his capacity as chair of a foundation, has been staying at the foundation’s office, which is rented from the Finance Ministry.  Meanwhile. General Anupong claimed it was inconvenient for him to live in his own house, due to its distance from the Interior Ministry, so he stays in welfare housing closer to his office.

Anusorn asked why the Prime Minister, General Prawit and General Anupong are exceptional cases and are not required to vacate welfare housing, while the other generals move out upon retirement.

'Meanwhile, Deputy Army Commander-in-Chief General Natthapol Narkpanich said today there are about 100 retired generals and special colonels who are still living in welfare housing units after their retirement.'

He assured, however, that this problem will be resolved around March.

Which year 2040 ?

You couldn't make this <deleted> up, if you tried !

Greed, greed, greed, that is the only reason Prayut is still abusing welfare housing.

How on earth can he use the excuse... Security, last weeks incident in Korat shows there is no security on army bases here.

On an army military installation there is a ready supply of slave labor conscripts available for him to use...as he pleases.

His 100,000,000+THB isn't enough... he wants more. And he want to pay less.

"The Prime Minister cited security concerns for his continued stay in a military compound after his retirement".... I guess he knows that he's not as popular as he would like us to think he is.

Because they make the rules.

Probably wouldn't know how to pay rent.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

Suggest Thaivisa ask question 1 April and see how many still live in free housing.

well its a nice change to see AT LAST a party questioning, some of the things the RULING ? party are up to, wont do much good though , but at least all their scams and underhandness, are being brought into the spotlight

General Prawit claimed he, in his capacity as chair

Just cover this particular chair in bubble-wrap and then remove it. Easy.

(Do it before he promotes himself to sofa though)

Thai millionaires on welfare.  What a non surprise.  Heads of state need secured housing, but isn't their a Prime Minister's residence?  cha cha garnering strange attention as always.

Inside a military compound watch collections will be much safer.

millionaires & billionaires (guess how they got their wealth...) stay in social welfare houses

well... a step up from Europe, where social housing is giving to illegals, immigrants ... and the local population is forced to rent on the private market

I am very surprised that Thailand does not have a dedicated residence for their Prime Minister, as for the others, if their own residence is too far away to commute, they should be given an allowance so that they may rent something nearer to Parliament, like most other Countries in the World do.........even in Africa!

It's called one rule for me another for everyone else.

This is Thailand!

Double edged sword...

They do..."Phitsanulok Mansion"

Only two PM's have ever lived there ........ Prem Tinsulanonda and Chuan Leekpai.

The house is believed to be haunted. With Napoleon's penchant for fortune tellers, soothsayers etc etc, it is no small wonder that he does not live there.

I'm told, Pitsanukok Mansion is the prime minister's official residence and has been for some time. Only 2 PM have stayed there and only for a short time. Apparently it's haunted. And we all know the Thais' view of haunted houses....

Sorry, missed the post above whilst researching.
