SOURCE: Pattaya City News: April 5th 2007

Stray Dogs to be rounded up and shipped out of Chonburi Province.

At Pattaya City Hall, Khun Wirawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya called an emergency meeting of the Public Health Department to discuss the increasing problem of stray dogs that roam the streets of Pattaya.

The Deputy Mayor mentioned that a budget has now been allocated to ensure that these dogs are rounded up and transported to a secure compound in Satgeow Province in the North-East of Thailand.

A new by-law has now been introduced where Pet dogs are now not allowed to be let loose in public land. Pet Owners will now face fines of up to 5,000 Baht if caught.

This is good news for Tourists, some of which have experienced these stray animals first-hand, sustaining dog bites which require hospitalization.

One of the few provinces in Thailand where the indigenous people still eat dog meat !

Typically Thai problem solving.

Problem : Stray dogs.

Solution : Round them up and deposit them in another province as far away as possible.

Very humane, well we didn't harm the dogs the fact that the local people killed and ate them is on their concience.

Awful. Still I suppose it is better than throwing them alive to the Crocodiles as allegedly was done at times in the past!

Yes, I'd heard that story but was never able to substantiate it. Anyone know if there is any truth to it or is it just another urban myth?

Are they buddhist in Pattaya? If so, they seem to be very flexible with their ideals.

What’s the problem? Dog trucks were and are still common in many areas of Thailand. Is Pattaya any different?

I suspect your prices are way too high. More likely BBQ street mongrel, 5 baht a stick.

Solving the protein deficiency in Sa'gaeow and the Pattaya stray dog problem in one efficient swoop. Will this be extended to other resorts with similar problems, Hua Hin for instance.

No doubt the healthy ones will be packed in with the mangy half dead skeletons and emerge at the dinner table pre-scalped.

Personally I've never eaten dog meat, I'm told it has quite a strong taste. Are there any special recipes for dog meat ?

some weeks ago was a Documentary in ITV, where Thaipeople in Issan rounded up Streetdogs, and transported them to Vietnam - where Dogmeat is still a Delicazy !

I don't care what they do with the stray dogs. I just don't want them biting my flip flops!
