BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reports four new coronavirus cases, bringing its total to 47 since January, Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoen, director-general of the Department of Disease Control said in a news conference on Thursday.

The new cases include a 29 year-old Italian man who arrived in Thailand on March 1 and was diagnosed with the virus at a hospital in Chonburi province on March 2.

The second case is a 42 year-old Thai male office worker who returned from Italy on March 2 and was diagnosed with the virus on March 3 in a Chonburi hospital.

The third is a 22 year-old Chinese male student who was screened with symptoms while in transit at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport while traveling from Iran to China.

The fourth case is a 20 year-old Thai male student who arrived from Iran on Feb. 27 and was diagnosed with the virus in the southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province on March 2.

Thailand has recorded one coronavirus fatality, 31 patients have recovered and returned home, while 15 are still being treated in hospitals.

Until such time that Thailand places safety above tourist income, expect the numbers to keep rising.

How surprising...

Exactly what we were talking about.... And exactly the problem that the dumb authorities DO NOT WANT to care about.

Close the freaking borders. Create a real list (not a fantasy list in the twisted mind of a pseudo minister) of countries with high risks.

Impose quarantine like Israel.

Do your job !

Dumb and illogical pezzonovantes!

29 year old Italian arrived on March 1st, and on March 2nd he was diagnosed with the virus?

Same with the 42 year old Thai man. It only took ONE day.

Really?!?!

How many PUI do we have in Thailand at the moment waiting to be tested?

Forget about it!!!

Well, if Thailand were to ban tourists from certain countries, they should be fair and ban the top 10 most risky countries. All these have more than 100 cases.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

1. China (including HK, Macau)

2. Korea

3. Italy

4. Iran

5. Japan

6. France

7. Germany

8. Spain

9. USA

10. Singapore

What goes around comes around.

Closing the border will not work IMHO and would be more damaging to the economy.  I have no doubt now that Thailand is only reporting traceable cases linked with foreigners who entered the country, local transmission is not though I have no doubt they are doing the tracing and 'quarantining' while 'under investigation' but not adding it to the confirmed cases.   The government would see no benefit in being completely transparent and only serves to damage the tourism business etc.

I would not classify Singapore as a risky nation since they have one of the best disease containment/tracing systems in the world.  It has been often said by many western specialists that Singapore is the benchmark and if it cannot be contained in Singapore - it can not be contained period.  Singapore is being transparent about the disease which cannot be said of other nations (including the US which has also tried to implement the Chinese model of muzzling press that conflicts with the official line).

If India was on this list as well, they would have to cut their BNP estimates by 20%

3 more days and India is also on that list

ironically many of the cases in the UK and EU originated from one small area in Italy. and they have now ID two variations of the virus from Italy.

and now almost full circle.

It's official, school holidays have commenced and we have quarantined ourselves till further notice.

Someone let us know when the vaccine has been made available, in the meantime Zzzzzz

thinking about it in detail, your comment makes a lot of sense, actually there's not a big difference between the US and China when it comes to hiding/holding the truth from their citizens, they both lie and provide a lot of misleading information to divert people's attention to different, non relevant, matters

I guess warm/hot weather isn't much of a deterrent if it's spreading in countries like India and Egypt.

I worked there, great place friendly people, english widely spoken,  very western oriented, lovely ladies and sublime food

Nothing like what people who haven't visited expect it to be.

Would i go back? Yes without any hesitation

No publicly available vaccine for a year or more, seems to be the best word at present from the research community. In part, because even after something may be invented, they have to do trials on it with limited groups, before they release it for mass distribution.

Geography not one of your specialities? it gets cold in Egypt (19c at present) and parts of India have had unseasonably cool weather.

My new word of the day. I heard it in the Godfather movie but never really grasped the meaning until now. Thank you Mikey.
