There's a couple of double standards here. China was so successful in containing the flu only by doing what it did, locking down cities and regions, the West has acknowledged that is the case. China is able to do that because of the nature of its government, it imposes a sanction on its people. Italy has done similar and that was a surprise but no other country seems willing or able to do the same thing, the same way. It's therefore perhaps not the smartest thing to blame China for the spread of the virus in Western countries, caused in part by inaction (or inappropriate action) by their governments.

Very true. The swine flu went on for over a year and half and 12,000 Americans dead while Barack Obama was president. Come to think of it, I don't recall hysterics at anywhere near this level back then. Gee, I can't imagine why!

You think that the world hysteria was caused by Trump being POTUS ?

Odd ,as Trump has been accused of downplaying the virus and also suggesting that its just the flu that will be gone soon

No. I'm not sure why you think that. Very strange.

Don't let the official Chinese figures fool you. China were the first country to be hit, they were caught totally unprepared so it is safe to assume they were maxed out on everything, including test kits.

In a population of 60 million you can expect about 2,500 death of natural causes per day or 150,000 over the 2 month period.

Using your own factor of 10, an extra 30,000 could easily have died untested, maybe even more.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Don't worry I'm a firm unbeliever of the Chinese numbers and their claim of having contained it.As for the factor of ten being applied to the number of deaths (it's not my own and it's half of the factor suggested by one of the most respected modellers in this field) it's used to "guess" the death rate not the number of deaths but having said that even the Chinese have "apparently" said they are guessing the numbers of deaths.Hopefully people will agree with the sensibility of the UK's approach of ignoring the numbers game an just treat the complications of the serious and critical patients as they present themselves instead of trying to "contain" uncontainable.

The infections in China were all concentrated in one place which allowed them to be able to lock cities down .

Other countries the infections are located in numerous locations and thus being unable to get shut down

In other countries, at some point, all the infections were in the same location.

And Italy?

Their Wuhan virus has infected the world, and taken financial markets down dramatically.  And yet no apology, no mea culpa.  And they’ve lost all respect and believability in the western world.

This nails it

Around two-thirds of global cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in China's central Hubei province, where the virus first emerged in December. But in recent weeks the vast majority of new cases have been outside China.

If these bat and monkey brain eaters wouldn't do so, there wouldn't be a pandemic.

China is pretty much the last country that should give others any advice. Shame on you.

Yup

There was a patient zero in each of those countries.

Nothing worst the a ChiCom apologist they beat the Thai ones all the time

The word apologist reared its ugly head somewhat early in that exchange, typically a sign of a person having no viable argument whatsoever.....the life cycle of a TVF debate (if you're lucky): mention, argue, name call, loose, silence.

What's wrong with shut down multiple locations? The answer being that in countries such as ours it would be considered politically unsavory and socially unacceptable, not so in China. UK Gov. would have to set up a ring fence to contain the people and provide haz. mat. suits for visiting relatives and tradespeople lest detainees human rights were violated,

As usual nobody has really thought is through!

Some of you guys should get out more, travel, you know, see the world, experience different cultures.

In the Caribbean countries, bat stew is very common, it's delicious. Alligator steaks in the US, especially in Florida have been on the menu for centuries as has buffalo meat in the West, even in 5 star hotels. African countries eat monkey brains, south Americans eat monkey steaks, Brits. eat eels, the French eat horses (think Flicka), everyone used to eat dog but then the West stopped, the French eat frogs legs, Thai's eat rats, Ossies eat 'roo's. Zebra, antelope and ostrich are the norm in Africa, wild boar and yak in Russia.

In the UK we eat chicken beef and pork and once a week, cod....yawn!
