Is there anywhere in Phuket that sells good make mountain bikes, ie Kona, Giant etc?

im not sure what you consider a 'good' make, but i recently bought a mongoose at sports world. for my needs its perfect.

there is a bike shop up near thalang i believe, and if you look back in the phuket sub forum, you will be able to find specific details of where it is.

You'd be better off buying that in Bangkok at, for example, ProBike than in Phuket. There are a few small shops I have used in Phuket for repairs, parts and tune-ups, 2 in Phuket Town that I know of, but there are several large bike shops in Bangkok. You can have it boxed and check in as luggage on your flight. Better yet, do what I did a few years ago and on a trip to the US, visited a great bike shop, got exactly what I wanted and had it customized the way I wanted it, brought it back as checked luggage, and Thai customs never batted an eye, but would have told them I was just touring Thailand anyway, personal effects, blah blah. Saved at least US$700, and besides, the exact hybrid I wanted with the customized parts wasn't available in Thailand.

BTW, mountain bike prices are very low in Thailand because there is a very low customs duty as they are considered Sports equipment and allowed entry with minimum fuss.

Good news about the Merida dealer they are on special in Aus for $1795. Do you have any other details the name etc
