Buriram placed in LOCKDOWN in bid to stop spread of COVID-19

 

 

The governor of Buriram on Monday announced he is placing the whole province on lockdown in a bid to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

 

Mr Tachakon Hatthayakur announced a string of new measures that will effectively “close the city”.

 

The new measures will see both Thai and foreign tourists trying to enter Buriram undergo screening at various points of entry, such as the airport, train station, hotels and along major routes into the province.

 

People visiting or returning to the province must inform the local village headman or community leader of their arrival, while a system will be put in place to monitor tourists for 14 days after they arrive in the province. 

 

Group gatherings of more than 50 people have also been banned, including religious events such as merit making or monk ordination. 

 

Special quarantine areas will be introduced at hospitals in the province, while a local hotel will be used as a temporary hospital if needed. 

 

The news comes as Thailand reported its biggest jump in confirmed cases on Sunday, with the announcement of 32 new infections, which brought the total number of confirmed cases to 114.

I was just informed by my sister that Germany shuts down its borders and now I see Buri Ram shut down.

 

     They don't tell us the truth. There must be many cases. Is anybody living there?

There may be zero cases and they'll still go into lock down.

Thailand should close its border and order a travel ban from USA, UK, and Europe, the countries that cannot control it effectively. It is the only way to stop infection and save lives. 

The beginning of total CHAOS is soon to rear its ugly head.  Its all our faults (Foreigners), just wait the Thai government will ensure we get the blame somehow or someway.........

Very confusing... Buriram in lockdown, yet little P says everything under control..... Somebodies telling porkies.

Kudos to the governor for having the balls to do something, rather than wait for central govt to stop their endless thinking about acting.

Time to roll out 90 day reporting and TM30 for all Thais.  Maybe reintroduce the TM28.  These systems are up and running, so start tracking and monitoring your own citizens.  Misery loves company.  I'm sure the Thai populace will enjoy the jackboots.

i would seriously consider taking cash out of the ATM now, maybe two weeks worth for now and setting it aside.

So we make a supposition that with Anutin at the head of Health Ministry he has access to the figures. Easier to shut down his home turf and obviously he thinks it will make him look good if he protects Buri Ram first. Talk about making everyone nervous.

I fear we will start to see the rise of local warlords now - it could get very nasty indeed. 

I just read that two Italians escaped from quarantine on Koh Samui and are believed to be on Koh Phangan if Phangan gets infected we are well and truly in the $#IT€

That is all very well and good, but unless they provide flights to people needing to go home first its a bit hard on people. What happens when you have no visa, no income and nowhere to live ? What if you have to travel after lock down for previous medical reason not covered on your health insurance and you cannot get out prior ? I can agree on a lock down, but only after every body that needs or wants to get out gets out first and it is well advertised first.

Everything in the OP news report seems to be oriented to policing people coming INTO the province... And nothing about Buriram residents not being able to move OUT of the province to other areas...  In my book, normally, the latter is what a lockdown typically means.

I am in a small village in south Buriram. This morning the government speakers informed the locals foreigners spread corona virus and everyone needs to wash hands and not touch animals.

 

Some thing is happening in Buriram. My wife is due back from a funeral soon, I may have to get her to self isolate in the shed.

Do they honestly think everyone will do this voluntarily?

 

Like the pee noi returning from South Korea who had a big party and invited virtually the whole village, I'm guessing they'll be enough with the same attitude who either don't even know what's going on outside their village, to the ones who don't give a sh!t.

Yes. The message from Newin is that this is about "protecting" Buriram from outside infections.
