Covid-19: Entertainment, sports venues to be closed for 14 days

All entertainment places and sports venues in and around Bangkok, including pubs, massage parlours and nightclubs, will be closed for two weeks as part of the government’s attempts to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced this afternoon.

 

He said all mass public gatherings and activities will also be prohibited.  They include concerts, exhibitions and religious gatherings.

The ban will take effect starting Wednesday.

 

He said they are among a package of measures proposed by the committee to fight against Covid-19 chaired by Prime Minister Prayut and approved by the Cabinet today.

 

The Cabinet also approved its proposal to postpone the Songkran holiday.

If it can be done it will definitely be helpful. 

If he is willing to do this for Bangkok, the axe will fall on Phuket and Pattaya as well. Stand by Isaan massive repatriations about to happen !!

Irrespective of how dangerous the virus is, this is the right move and should do its bit to help contain the virus.

But that said, the time frame is something else, how long can people living hand to mouth survive for with no chance to earn a baht.

 

These sectors will highlight just how important the tourism sectors are. And i would hope that those envelope collectors go easy during this unprecedented crisis.

 

The country is going to take a seriously long time to recover from this I suspect. The fallout could well be that final straw, hope not though.

All the major tourist destinations must see the same. Why bother waiting, just pull the plug.

If there are still no 100% agreements in Europe of how bars, restaurant and pub owners will be reimbursed, everyone knows what that means for Thailand. Close them now and quite a few won`t be able to reopen again. I said it long time ago...the virus should be taken serious, but in the end the economic impact will be disastrous.

Entertainment venues to shutter for 14 days

 

 

The Cabinet today (March 17) approved a temporary closure of entertainment venues in Bangkok and Greater Bangkok for 14 days, starting from tomorrow (March 18), as the government beefs up measures to stem the Covid-19 outbreak.

 

Places affected include movie theatres, pubs, bars, traditional massage parlours and other entertainment venues listed under a related law.

Just for two weeks and only Bangkok, guess the other large cities nationwide and the beach resorts will need a few hundred positives tests before they qualify for the scheme.

What about the BTS/MRT and public transport.....food courts etc. they are just as high a risk?

so it is safe to get a one hour oil massage from another human being who is spending all day in extremely close contact with tourists from all of the world? faces sometimes just inches apart for a hour? head massage with your head in their lap while they are bent over you breathing in each others expelled virus?

rows of tourist lined up in a room right next to each other getting foot massages?

That's new emerging information, thanks. This is the crux of the matter:

Still more info needed. If it indeed does transmit when asymptomatic, then only solution for now is more lockdowns.
