am i missing something here .... there is currently NO vaccine for COVID-19.

Favipiravir will be useless  .... ?

Favipiravir is not a vaccine. It is an anti-viral treatment for those already infected. There are a number of suggested treatments for those who get very sick but the trouble is that none of them are tried and trusted.

In the government's Emergency Operations Department best case scenario 400,000 people will be infected. So with

200,000 tablets of Favipiravir they will get half a tab each.

Suspect the higher status folks will get the meds? Once the Deputy Minister for Agriculture has taken his cut.

I remember that they said they have a treatment for the virus. Then why do they need antiviral drugs from China?

My guess? Most of the antivirals in country are for HIV patients, and there has been a shortage of those before the virus crisis.

And many different anit-virals ( -vir) are being tested, including Remdesivir. So maybe get as much as you can?

French officals suggesting that Ibuprofen may not be the best NSAID.

Medical authorities in China said they tested the antiviral drug favipiravir on 340 patients and found it reduces recovery time and improves lung condition of patients, according to the Guardian.

Infected patients who were given the drug in Wuhan and Shenzhen tested negative for the virus after a median of four days, compared with a median of 11 days for those who were not treated with the drug, the outlet reported, citing public broadcaster NHK.

I’m sure that they did use it, perhaps not in the early days. And by various accounts, it has been effective in a number of cases. But that isn’t to say that it’s a 100% fool proof “cure”. If it were, there would be no deaths anywhere. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t help in some cases.

Yes sure they did, they tested it on 340 patients who recovered in 4 days instead of 11 days.
Why didn't they use it on more though like 20,000? What is the cost?

Anutin's strong point is obviously not mathematics. We have a pandemic and this is the best man they could find for the job?

TIT. What else should we expect?

Just as a small math exercise over this COVID-19 panic:

Wuhan has a population of 11 million people
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, there have been 81,000 confirmed cases (mostly) in the Wuhan area
Of the confirmed cases about 3,000 have died
81,000 sick of 11 million people = 0.7% of the Wuhan population (or 0.0057% of the Chinese population) got sick and had to be treated for COVID-19
3,000 dead of those 81,000 = 3.7% of the sick died (or 0.027% of the total population of Wuhan/ 0.0002% of the total Chinese population)

Now we compare that with Thailand:
An prediction that 20,000 people will become so sick that they will need this medication...
While last year over 20,000 people died from traffic accidents (remember that in Thailand they only count those who died directly in the accident, and not anyone dying in an ambulance or in a hospital) and this year already 3,000 have died on the roads (Monday last week 90 people died on the roads while there were 30 new confirmed COVID-19 cases...).

So, with this I just want to say that "If we can survive the Thai traffic, then we can survive COVID-19!"

Tried to download the torrent but couldn't. Sounds like a good movie.

Mind you gangsters have used this approach for a very long time. You buy protection or something bad happens. This has all the hallmarks of snouts in the trough, yet again.

Quite true, we do tend to hear a lot about snouts in troughs. Another very serious pandemic.

The chinese trials were over 4 days but it doesnt say what the dosage was so even if it was 1 tablet per day that reduces the patient treatment count in Thailand to 50,000. Boris has one thing right and that is he let's the scientists and medical experts brief on their subjects and doesnt behave like a know it all.

With a "government" estimate of (eventually) 400,000 virus patients, that ain't a lot of pills!

Gov will take first and now that we have been in stage 3 for past week or so it will be interesting to see what happens next .... Total isolation for all it is then

For around 2 weeks ago it was publish on newspaper Bangkok post?. I do not really remember.

There is strong suspicion that virus was develop by military in China. It was slept in the world by mistake or on purpose(no one knows)

Latest medical rapport says that people can not develop immunity against virus. Same person can be sick many times if she/he expose to infective environment.

It is New revolutionary type of virus. That's why no vaccine available.

Created big chaos in the world. Crash global economy. In Denmark people fight over a food . Because there are no food in stores+....
