URMySunshine
The money taps are really gushing now.... Every Briton could get cash payments from the government amid fears the coronavirus crisis could leave millions of people without jobs. The extraordinary move is being considered by ministers as the scale of the economic meltdown the country faces becomes clear - with warnings that 'social distancing' measures could see GDP slump by 20 per cent and the hospitality sector effectively disappear. Boris Johnson suggested last night that a 'universal basic income' - or UBI - is among the options on the table to avoid families being plunged into poverty and mass unrest as UK plc grinds to a hal https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8128807/EVERY-Briton-paid-universal-basic-salary-regardless-means-coronavirus-cash-crisis.html
CNXexpat
13 minutes ago, sanemax said: How would the E.U have helped the UK ? And you are saying that you now wont offer any help, because we left ? The UK health system is sick. There are only 6.6 beds per 100,000 citizens at the Intensive care units - less than Italy, Spain, France, etc. In Germany are 29.2 beds, in the US 34.7 beds. And then the UK made nurses and doctors from EU countries afraid that they have to leave the country so they left before they are kicked out. Perhaps also less tests arrived at the UK because border controls. Yes, I am sure and I hope that the EU family will help the UK if they need help. But first they will help other family members in need. If you wanted to become divorced from your wife and later become sick in the same time with her sister, what do you think she will help first? The sister or you? She will have priorities for sure.

Logosone
Yes, Filipinas in particular. Another stroke of genius, since most Filipinos basically send a sizeable part of their income back to the Philippines and this money does not contribute to the UK economy. It is basically taken out.

With EU governments including Italy, Spain and France requiring citizens to stay at home to curb the coronavirus, and Rome threatening to tighten restrictions further, the French prime minister, Édouard Philippe, has said that if the UK does not follow suit soon, arrivals from Britain could be refused entry. “Everyone in the EU must adopt logical methods and processes to fight against the epidemic,” Philippe said. “It’s obvious that if neighbouring states like the UK leave it too long, we would have difficulty allowing British citizens who are moving freely around their country to come to France.” 2

Rookiescot
Just now, saengd said: It's quite amazing you would try and use that argument, as if Boris or anyone else could have actually imagined, let alone foreseen the virus or the extent to which it has caused panic and financial meltdowns. "If we left the EU, we would end this sterile debate, and we would have to recognise that most of our problems are not caused by 'Brussels', but by chronic British short-termism, inadequate management, sloth, low skills, a culture of easy gratification and underinvestment in both human and physical capital and infrastructure. Why are we still, person for person, so much less productive than the Germans? That is now a question more than a century old, and the answer is nothing to do with the EU." Now you are probably wondering who it is I am quoting. The answer is Boris Johnson. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1257329/brexit-news-uk-eu-trade-talks-coronavirus-boris-johnson-spt 1

The fall of the pound is not due to the virus, the virus merely exacerbated the fall of the pound which began much earlier. However, Boris Johnson and his Brexit government are of course the only people who could have addressed the structural problems, such as excessive debt, which plague the UK economy and have led to a fall in the pound which is much worse and and much deeper than that of any other currency. Sadly for the Uk and its people, the only remedy the Brexit government could come up with is that of a 17 year old Liverpudlian, 'Let's increase the overdraft. Let the another generation pay for us'. Unfortunately this Brexit government, rather than golden times ahead, will deliver nothing but misery to the British people. 4 1 1
