RandolphGB Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 There's a lot of conflicting information today about new restrictions for covid-19. https://www.caat.or.th/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/CAAT-COVID-19-Practical-Guideline-18Mar20.pdf https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailand-designates-10-more-countries-as-covid-19-high-risk/ The official CAT documents is vague and states ''passengers from'' the Disease Infected Zones and from the Ongoing Local Transmission Areas. From could mean either ''travelling from'' or originating from''. Does anybody have any clarification whether these will apply to holders of passports from the affected countries or just people arriving from those countries? I have a UK passport and was planning to do a non-b visa run to Laos leaving on Friday and returning to Thailand on Sunday. However, it's not clear if because I have a UK passport the check-in desk will require me to show medical certificate and insurance.
at15 Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 I assume you dont need this but come prepared, its southeast asia they dont exactly listen to official orders. The way its written seems like if you pass (1)-not in risky country last 14 days......... then (2) and (3) dont apply. "If it is found that the passenger has travel history in the country as specified in (1), and the passenger is unable to present the required documentation as listed in (2) and (3), the air operator shall not issue a boarding pass and the boarding shall be denied." 1

Thanks - this is the problem. Nobody seems to know and I'm loathed to leave my fate in the hands of some jobsworth on the check-in desk.

No mention that you could not get a visa at a Lao embassy or consulate. 1
Mr Smithy Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 A heads up! It is now being reported that the government is actively considering closing all boarders. 1 1

Tayaout Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 I know that Kanchanaburi won't let you out if you can't come back since they only issue daypass.
RandolphGB Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 Laos closed. Cambodia should still be an option in the short term.

noosard Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 I did a visa run on Wednesday before I did i rang these people at the border Nong Khai Kantana Travel 042 411132 081 9641411 They operate a car park area as well close to Border control
RandolphGB Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 Latest guidance is that borders are now effectively closed from March 22 onwards. Insurance and a covid-19 health certificate needed to get into Thailand. Even for Thais!
nomad2019 Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 How to hell would we, i ( joe bloggs ) get insurance cover for virus ( impossible ) Surely government will remove this enforcement soon
Sambotte Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Look obvious to me it's very risky to change country (any in the world) at those times. Emergencies (gouvernements panic everywhere) rules change very suddenly anywhere. You take the risk of being in deep trouble (denial, quarantine, etc.), not to mention public transports are just very bad relative to contagion (stuck in a bus or a plane or airport, with crowd, air-con crazy cold, etc.). Overstay is usually to avoid, except in this situation, i would say, for your health. Immigration should adapt their rules for those already in Thailand obviously too. Let's hope.
nightfox Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 From all the articles I seen regarding Thailand new travel restrictions which comes into effect Sunday on foreigners arriving in Thailand which also includes land boarders, its not looking good for many guys here on multi Non o and multi tourist visas doing boarder runs in the near future as there will be a lot of people stranded on any neighboring boarder if there are any ones that are open......Not looking good.

France, Germany, Italy, Spain Iran and the United States. There hasn't been an announcement yet about adding countries to this. However, more will certainly be added shortly.
