Five over-charging face mask traders jailed for between 6 to 18 months

The economic ignorance of this saddens me.  People complain when they cant find masks, but are also mad when people charge more.  But charging more means that masks will be available as people will buy less of them and produce more.

there is no such thing as "price gouging" there are only people who demand a free lunch.

I don’t see anything wrong with supply and demand costs - those selling masks at a higher price are probably having to pay higher cost price too. The government should be buying them and subsidizing to the general public like they do many other things (fuel etc).

Some airlines that are still operating flights are currently charging astronomical Amounts for tickets. Makes these mask gauging prices look tame.

Neo LIberal policies of market pricing , cuased offshore manufacturing, now many countries pay the price, so the rich will afford the neccesities, the rest >> too sad.

Governments have nowhere to borrow from, the World Bank has controlled that, under the guidance of the neoliberals. Thanks Maggie and the rest

Although some of it is greed, without pricing rising you have hoarders.  You obviously didn't understand what i stated.

Why is it greedy for someone to raise the price, but not greedy for someone to demand a lower price so they can overbuy?

Someone should jail the Ebay vendors who are charging $24 for a single $2 N95 mask.

So because someone is helping to properly allocate economic resources you want to throw them in a cage?  Now who is the evil one?

So the pilots and other airline workers who are risking their health to get people from point A to point B should not receive adequate compensation?  what about the airlines taking the risk of lawsuits and having added costs to operate those flights, should they not be compensated?

Five traders, who inflated the prices of face masks, were sentenced by the Criminal Court to time in prison.

After being convicted and sentenced, were they released on bail so they could appeal their convictions while running around free until all of them either die or flee the country???   :cheesy:

Your argument can also be applied to those selling masks at a higher price.

I’m saying prices would be expected to go up for the reasons you have stated. If the government wants to intervene - rather than putting the mask sellers (or airline management in jail), they should be subsidizing them.
