Thailand’s Health Ministry has moved to quash speculation that it does not have adequate resources to be able to cope with a further outbreak of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

Spokesperson Rungruang Kitphati on Friday told the media that Thailand has more than enough antiviral drugs, hospital beds and medical staff.

In footage shared by the National News Bureau of Thailand, Mr Rungruang said there have been “a lot of attacks that we don't have sufficient medicine” and while each patient needs around 70 pills, Thailand currently has 200,000 and are preparing even more.

Mr Rungruang also said there are enough hospital beds and there is a contingency plan in place to be able to treat more patients if needed.

As for claims Thailand doesn’t have enough specialised doctors, Mr Rungruang said there doctors are able to access and share information online in real time and that there are sufficient doctors and nurses.

Mr Rungruang called on the public to show empathy and mercy to Thailand’s doctors, nurses and medical staff who are working very hard to treat not only COVID-19 patients.

Mr Rungruang also revealed the pressure medical staff are under not only from COVID-19 but also due to other cases.

He particularly highlighted the number of casualties from accidents on Thailand’s roads.

“Each day, we accept 70 patients severely injured from road accidents and die”, Mr Rungruang said.

“Each day, 700 road accident cases require intensive care,” he added.

Mr Rungruang said “we are doing our best” but called on the public to improve their behaviour and learn how they can help prevent the spread of the virus.

The news comes as Thailand this week reported a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases.

On Friday, health officials announced 50 new cases, taking the total amount of cases reported in the country to 322. 43 patients have recovered and gone home, while 278 remain in hospital. There has been 1 death from COVID-19 in Thailand.

Plus the dead at the scene... 50-70 people... per day  WOW!

That's one hell of an admission.

The transport minister should be up there in number one spot with the CM governor for doing sod-all!

How many of these need respirators and how many respirators are there. Personal prottective gear for health workers. Got enough? Anti viral meds? Man's insane. If existing anti-viral drugs worked would there be over 11,000 dead in around 3 months?

None of which will be of  help;

- No one knows if  "antiviral" drugs  are effective against the  SARS Cov-2 virus.

- A  hospital bed in a ward is of no use for treating an infectious disease. You need an ICU bed.

- You need ventilators. Thailand has an estimated 2200  respiratory ventilators. (excluding the military's private stash). Not enough for the critical care wave coming.

- You can't train an ICU nurse or MD overnight.

No worries though as plenty in TVF have assured us that there is nothing to be concerned about.

Im sure every one in the health service is doing all that they can and should be praised, but the health ministry is another sad case of the blind being led by the blind.
