They are doing this. However what the people do not realise everything what they do is calculated. Chinese make no losses. They can "donate" few masks and other gear but in the meantime when production is geared up they sell already masks for 5-10x the real value + other things not to mention they make killing from test kits already. China "helping" is something western world does not seem to comprehend very well. I think I have learned something after spending there 28 years but every day I learn something new too. Example (I do not go into details but just think who operates ports in Greece now...): China Sends 1 Million Face Masks To Greece Amid COVID-19 Pandemic - Greek Health Ministry China has sent to Greece one million medical and surgical masks, as well as other medical supplies amid COVID-19 outbreak, the Greek Health Ministry said on Saturday, adding that the total weight of cargo amounted to eight tonnes. According to the ministry, 500,000 masks were granted to Greece by the Chinese government, while another half was sent by State Grid Corporation of China, a strategic partner of Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator.https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202003/17/WS5e701247a31012821727f8c0.html + there is even online consultation...https://promo.guahao.com/en/global/pneumonia/ ++ here in Malaysia (I'm in KL) we are now in lockdown until 31st but I guess it will continue after that. Surely the tourist hotspots would be hit the hardest. It may well be spreading fast (and not have spread fast earlier for inexplicable reasons), but I doubt the death toll is numbering in the hundreds or anything. When the cases are low (as they still are in most of the world - much lower than they can be) you can get support in the hospital and survive, if the healthcare system is overwhelmed -- in many countries you would just have to start picking which ones will have a chance of surviving while rejecting the rest. It is still extremely early in the pandemic (case wise).

tlock
Thailand is unique in the sense that so much of the young population works in the Bangkok/Chonburi area and then will return all over Issan. There is much more inter-country travel than possibly any other country affected so far. 1

The selfish attitude indicated above I am sure is the same reason for the spread into Isaan. I reside in a small quiet village in Isaan that has recently had returnees from S. Korea who have immediately set about catching up with old friends for meals, parties etc. We have also seen an influx of them from Bangkok, Pattaya etc who behave in the same manner. Isaan people dont usually bother with a centre spoon at meal times and often eat off each others plates. Likewise the men will sit around and drink sharing the same one glass and a bottle or two of Lao Khao. A disaster waiting to happen. Yesterday there was a noisy procession in the streets with the usual dancers and loud music etc with not one mask to be seen. There was also the usual scene of small groups among the dancers all drinking from the same beer bottles not to mention the hugging and kissing. When I asked the wife what was going on and why are people gathering when we have been told not its best to isolate, her reply was ...."Oh its the annual moo barn festival and in Isaan we HAVE to have it, no matter what"!! When I compared it to Songkran, the racing at Buriram, bars closed everywhere etc etc, it made no difference. "No you dont understand, In Isaan we have to have it every year, its all been booked earlier!! Is it that Thai 'logic' thing again? Is it having the right amulet or the belief in reincarnation? It seems to be the same attitude that makes them overtake on a hill or a blind bend into oncoming traffic. Whatever it is they are slow to realise it just doesnt work. 3 3

Popular Post Krataiboy
Less than six hundred confirmed cases of COVID-19 and only one death, so far, out of a population of seventy million does not seem like a good reason to panic. This isn't the first virus to generate the kind of scary headlines beloved of those who control our lives. Nor will it be the last. But it is a temporary phenomenon, not an apocalypse the hyperbolic mass media would have us believe. It's worth trying to preserve a sense of perspective by looking at some salient facts. For example, the tiny proportion of the population likely to catch the virus have either no or only mild symptoms and make a full recovery. The younger you are, the greater your chances of shaking off the germ. Most at risk are elderly folk with compromised immune systems and/or pre-existing health problems. And obviously, there are many simple and sensible precautions one can take - avoiding crowded places and stepping up personal hygiene - to minimise risk. If I wasn't an old fart myself, I would find this chart reassuring! Edited March 22, 2020 by Krataiboy
