Pattaya Police, Mityon give free helmets to Pattaya motorcyclists

PATTAYA:--Banglamung Police Station and Mityon Pattaya Co. gave free helmets to riders for the now-canceled Songkran holiday.

Banglamung police chief Pol. Col. Pattanachai Pamornpiboon police commission head Wiroj Amnuayyonwaree and executives from the Mityon motorcycle dealer donated 100 helmets, 10 to 10 separate communities.

Pattanachai said the donation was part of police’s road safety campaign, which is especially important during April’s usual Songkran period, when hundreds of people are killed on Thailand’s roads while driving motorbikes.

The government on March 17 officially postponed Songkran, likely to July, due to the coronavirus crisis.

so they can sell them and make some (necessary) extra money... hard times = hard decisions

Good thinking, riding a bike without a helmet is probably more deadly than COVID-19

100 helmets for each 100B?

Exactly how much protection do these pieces of plastic offer?

And why do people wear no helmets? Because they can't afford them? Because they don't have a helmet? Or because most don't want to wear a helmet for many reason?

If Pattaya Plod took a role in actively policing Chonburi roads it would lower the daily casualty figures more than a thousand free helmets.

non helmeted head trauma has quite a high morbitality-morbitidy rate compared to that of corona virus

imo most simply dont want to wear a helmet

Sorry, but give helmets away, most likely not used.

Give a fine of 100 baht instantly to be paid or confiscate bike to pay and in no time everyone is wearing a helmet. Its human way.

Well done Pattaya' finest and well done & thank for for giving back to the community Mityon Execs, your both a credit to your country and Thailand should be proud of your noble efforts, lucky that someone was able to get a photo off the low key handover :shock1: ????????

Did the positively cheer anyone up?

Thought not :sleepy:

I was talking with an officer outside Big C Pattaya Klang and there were upwards of 20 bikes with 3-4 students in uniform and none wearing helmets. I asked the officer why he pays them no attention. He replied "if I fine them or impound their bikes, how will they get to Arunothai School every day?"
