It's great in retrospect to be able to see the sense in shutting the stable door, while you still have a horse, though he is simply uttering what many of us have been saying for nearly two months now,

Hasn't he got it (or been put in quarantine) too?

He pointed to the fact that in Italy there had been 47,021 cases and 4,032 deaths or 8.6%.

He forgets an important detail;
the average age of people who died in Italy and tested positive for Covid-19 is 79.5 years, 70% of whom are men;
people under the age of 60 account for a tiny percentage of the dead.

The link ( it's a PDF ) that I put to you is in Italian but it is easily understandable for us Europeans especially since there is a maximum of diagrams,

From that article:

"The differences between the two identified strains are tiny. In fact, they can’t really be considered to be separate “strains”, says Jones. And many of the genetic differences won’t affect the production of proteins, and so won’t change the way the virus works, or the symptoms it causes, he says. One is not more deadly than the other.

“In all practical terms, the virus is as it was when it originally emerged,” says Jones. “There’s no evidence it is getting any worse.” The sentiment is echoed by the World Health Organization. The study by Tang and colleagues only suggests there is some genetic diversity of the virus – it doesn’t mean it is changing, a representative told New Scientist."

- Italy has a greater number of older and more vulnerable citizens. That, along with an overstretched hospital system has exacerbated the problems.  Germany with its younger average population and better medical system is relatively unscathed.

This is getting out of control.

It's been out of control since day 1. Any notion that the government have been in the driving seat with this is a wet-dream pure and simple, and exists only in the minds of those whose ambition to drive the country outstrips their ability do so so - by a very wide margin.

The Prayuth government have failed spectacularly to do any more than look after a very narrow band of interests, and he must now be made to pay an appropriate price to the Thai people.

That's the way it works.

Then why Don't you link a reliable source to back your claim?

So if you don't know it then it doesn't exist, right? Are you a Murrican?

What about googling before you spout nonsense?

Ok ofcourse there are different coronaviruses but could you furnish us all where it states there is a particular Italian strain of Covid19 that is seperate from the Wuhan virus.

You think? How about a bus load of super spreaders heading for the rural areas. If there was ever an argument against globalism then this virus must be it.

What about medieval epidemics killing third of population?

What he didn't mention was that Korea imposed a testing program immediatelyand used this to monitor the people with the virus. Korea had their super spreader it was in a church I believe it jumped 108 in a day there. The DR. needs to recheck his information. Testing as many people as possible seems to have more affect than anything, they can isolate these people and monitor them.

The italian strain is more deadly, the virus has mutated....google it.

The most important revelation of the mutations detected in Spain is that they are not associated with factors of greater or less lethality than the original genome of the virus.

The University of Valencia in a statement said: "The conclusion that has been reached after the analysis carried out is that, until now, no mutation has been found associated with greater virulence, lethality, or some interesting property from a clinical point of view." (using samples from Italy)

Guess it's you who needs to google a bit miore or read past the headline.

However,,,, there is also this....

The Phylogenetic analysis suggested that SARS-CoV-2 exhibited remarkable evolutionary divergence, with potential evolutionary branches within SARS-CoV-2.

During the initial Wuhan epidemic, there were 2 main strains the, WIV02 (2019-12-31)/WH19008 (2019-12-30) and MT0270641 (2020-1-29)/ZJ01(2020-1-23) and these were the basis for  the potential of forming evolutionary branches during dissemination.

Later just in China alone, 8 strains were identified. The relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) analysis showed that there were various differences among 8 strains (MN938384, CNA0007334, WIV06, ZJ01, NMDC60013002-05, CNA0007332, MN988668, WIV07) and other members of SARS-CoV-2 family (Fig 1B), where MN938384, CNA0007334, WIV06 and ZJ0. Among aforementioned 8 strains which were collected in Wuhan, Guangdong and Hangzhou, six were collected at the early stage of COVID-19 (2019-12-26 to 2020 -1-2). The collection time of MN938384 was no later than 2020-1-14 (virus submission time), while ZJ01 was collected on 2020-1-23.

ZJ01, including 7 deletions, 4 insertions and 24 substitutions. For the rest 3 mutation sites, NO.20 was caused by a sequencing error while NO.14 and No. 38 widely existed in SARS-CoV-2 family. Among ZJ01 unique mutations, 10 (NO.22-31) were located on the S protein, including 3 samesense mutation, 2 deletion mutation and 5 missense mutation, which led to amino acid changes of Ser596, Gln613, Glu702, Ala771, Ala1015, Pro1053 and Thr1066. Further similarity analysis indicated that the main difference among various coronaviruses located in the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) region of S1. Intriguingly, the differences between ZJ01 and other members of SARS-CoV-2 mainly resided in in the S1/S2 and S2 (please refer to detailed diagrams in the study.)

The new evolved ZJ01 strain has a better affinity of binding to the furin-cleavage sites and it produced milder symptoms in the infected patients and less damage to the lungs and kidneys. However researchers warned although the patients from these strains recovered faster, the midterm and long term effects of the residual viral loads or dormant loads in the patients could be more harmful in the future but studies are needed to carefully observe and conclude that.

What a shame of a country, if you have such morons as"leading doctors".

First it`s not all about Thailand, as every country is getting f**** step by step. But it`s not a surprise as Thais see their country as one and only center of the world. If he would be such a "leading doctor" he also should have known that Italy is testing EVERY death in regard to corona. That`s the only reason, why the death rate is exploding there and the Italian health ministry admitted it. So if you get a heart-attack in Italy, die and are tested positive after your death, it will count as "died because of covid19".

I am afraid that research has now been thoroughly debunked.

"A paper published by Lu Jian of Peking University and colleagues on 3 March in the journal National Science Review analyzed 103 virus genomes and argued that they fell into one of two distinct types, named S and L, distinguished by two mutations. Because 70% of sequenced SARS-CoV-2 genomes belong to L, the newer type, the authors concluded that virus has evolved to become more aggressive and to spread faster.

But they lack evidence, Rambaut says. “What they’ve done is basically seen these two branches and said, ‘That one is bigger, [so that virus] must be more virulent or more transmissible,’” he says. However, just because a virus is exported and leads to a large outbreak elsewhere does not mean it is behaving differently: “One of these lineages is going to be bigger than the other just by chance.” Some researchers have called for the paper to be retracted. “The claims made in it are clearly unfounded and risk spreading dangerous misinformation at a crucial time in the outbreak,” four scientists at the University of Glasgow wrote in a response published on www.virological.org.'

They mean 'Deadly Wuhan strain of Covid-19' right? = 'The study, produced by researchers at Peking University’s School of Life Sciences and the Institute Pasteur of Shanghai, found that two types of the coronavirus appeared to exist: a more aggressive one, and less aggressive one. That more aggressive strain was found in early cases from Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus was thought to have originated from, and the researchers think it may have evolved from the less aggressive type.' https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2020/03/04/discovery-of-2-strains-of-covid-19-coronavirus-hints-at-how-it-evolved/#2f1807ea7094

Health ministers in Italy are growing increasingly concerned after discovering that the coronavirus has mutated into a new strain which they are calling the peronivirus.

The peronivirus is similar to the coronavirus but is stronger, more expensive to treat and also causes victims to smell skunky.

‘We have found signs that the coronavirus has mutated into something we are calling the peronivirus. A lot of people are talking about it but, to be honest, it’s rather overrated,’ said Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza.

Nextstrain still only shows Chinese sourced strains in Thailand. Thais should update the information unless they want to be caught with their pants down Chinasplaining their master's screwups.

The experts say that the difference in the single strain S/L are so small that one would not be more deadly than the other

So this so called Thai expert is blowing it

and just to add the original boxing stadium did not mention anyone from Italy

This is a clear attempt to blame Farangs and is a very dangerous path to take, the virus originated in China ................ period, Thailand kept its borders fully open for weeks (and still is open) when people were advising them this was an error

Now we are all at risk - everyone living and breathing in this country - who's fault is that - I know exactly, I'm off for a shower I'm feeling stinky

Who is stinky ?

The  research that has been ongoing  has identified multiple minor variations in samples  taken from different  locations. There  has been  no demonstrable evidence  any one of them is  more  "deadly" than another. But it is suspected than a very early mutation gave it the properties  of/for human to human transmission which triggered the  Wuhan  outbreak. That leads  to the consideration of the factual anomaly of previous isolated victims of what is now named  Covid-19 who did  not co -infect at least by human to human contact. That further leads to the  question of how long this virus has actually been in existence but unrecognized until a mutation caused the explosive  outbreak. Further minor variations may have also increased the infectiousness but not the "deadliness".
