Foreigners and locals in Thailand told to STAY INDOORS

Provincial governors throughout Thailand on Wednesday announced further measures in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

But at the very heart of the announcements was one clear message to people in Thailand: STAY INDOORS.

People are advised to stay indoors apart from going to the supermarket, pharmacy or carrying out some other essential business such as banking or immigration and that social distancing should be practiced at all times.

People in Thailand should also wear a mask when outdoors and ensure they regularly wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

The elderly, children aged under 5 and those with pre-existing health conditions are advised to avoid going outside altogether.

While there are no travel restrictions in place within Thailand, inter-provincial travel is also discouraged.

The news comes after provincial governors in Chonburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan announced the closure of shopping malls, golf courses and public parks, while social gatherings have also been banned.

Only supermarkets, pharmacies, banks and other ‘essential’ businesses can remain open. Food courts and restaurants must offer takeaway food only. Stores such as 7-Eleven and Family Mart can also remain open.

In Phuket, the governor went one step further and requested tourists to not go outside between 5pm and midnight.

The governor’s request came after large numbers of foreign tourists had been seen congregating and drinking on Patong Beach in recent evenings.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Thai government stressed there was no curfew in Thailand but did say that road checkpoints will be set up nationwide to monitor traffic and screen travellers.

From Thursday, Thailand closed its borders to foreign tourists.

Possible the most sensible comment to have come from the government to date. If people ignore the peril and keep socialising this virus will sweep rampantly through the country.

If we could know the motivations of the governor ....
And why foreigners and not Thai people?

Not in Roi Et Province.

Shopping malls, golf clubs, non essential shops still operating as usual.

It will be interesting to see what happens this evening here in the moo baan.  At dusk there are people, including kids walking, riding bikes and playing badminton.  I usually go for a bike ride.

Try reading the article "The governor’s request came after large numbers of foreign tourists had been seen congregating and drinking on Patong Beach in recent evenings." It did affect both Thais and 'Foreigners' (of every ilk) but this is not clear in the article.

The beauty of commenting from Phuket, not Nakkon Nowhere.

I stay now indoors 99% of the time. But it's impossible to keep social distance especially if we have to go to the immigration.

I have no car so normally I have to take the minivan and motorbike taxi to drive one hour to the immigration. Last time, on the way to the immigration I counted the people which are in close contact me in the minivan. (around 30 people going in and out ONE way. ) One woman was in front sneezing and coughing. At the immigration there wasn't so much people but again we still have contact with some. So I'm ok with social distancing and to stay indoors but Im guess many people do it with the minivan, the only solution I see is to take private taxi and hope that the immigration center is not full, because it's kind of useless if you stay indoors for 3 Month and then you come with around 50- 100people on one day in contact.

He said 'tourists', not foreigners, and even specifically mentioned Thai tourists.

Something to seriously consider especially on  city streets is that soi dogs  generally survive on various food sources generated  by  normal daily  human business. How long before these dogs start  to suffer  real starvation and pack  fights  start and/or  menace anyone on the streets? Any  good  samaritan who feels the need to continue to go and feed may face a real problem .

Why do they always have to differentiate foreigners and locals ? Can a foreigner be a local after some years of residence in the country ? Can a local also be a foreigner for the same reason ?

The PM has also specifically banned all nitpicking semantics comments for the forseeable future due to Corona virus infection rates spiking and a general distaste for bull sheeat when people are dying.

yes you.  and don't call me Shirley.

Does this mean that I am not supposed to be sitting on my balcony overlooking a forest, no-one else in sight, only the birds in the trees and the chickens running around? What a load of cobblers.

Stay away from other people who you do not know where they've been or in contact with. Wash hands every time you touch something. And to keep others happy, wear that mask. The Man in the Iron Mask.jpg

With the warnings that we have had I would be surprised if there was anyone who could not provide food for themselves.  Takeaway, home delivery, cook at home etc.

I guess some people just need every detail written and explained without the use of any common sense.

Lots of mommy boys here.

Cannot do laundry or boil water. Why do you think so many come here and a couple weeks later, have a live in?

Does that exist in LOS. And yes, everything does need to written and explained like 'drive on the left!'

My initial question was mean to be toungue in cheek.

As I said...a load of cobblers.
