April 2, 20206 yr Popular Post This is good news but such measures are not enough. Thailand needs to find a way to do mass testing, preferably with the newly developed SUPER QUICK on the spot results type that don't even need a painful nose swab, and they also need to do massive blood tests for antibodies to begin to understand the percentage of the people here that have already been infected and recovered. Social distancing combined with shut downs combined with massive testing combined with contact tracing and then there is hope to open the country up sooner with fewer deaths and less long term economic damage. You need it all. Not just one part. Also of course it goes without saying get those medical people enough PPE. Edited April 2, 20206 yr by Jingthing

Or better still, impose house 24/7 house curfew with very few exceptions as in the UK (key workers with ID etc.). Here in Hua Hin it's surprising to see so many locals out and about in the areas such as Chom Sim, Bon Kai, Hin Lek Fai etc. but taking a drive by The Hilton this afternoon it was a ghost town. 24-hr curfew? You are so clever..are'nt you? The 30% of thais who live hand-to-mouth are gonna dig into their (non-existing) savings to survive...right? ..or you think Thailand is populated by retired farangs with pensions You should get out more.

The spreading wont reduce with this. From 10pm to 4am there are nearly no people outside anyway. The biggest spreading happens daily in public transport, BTS, MRT, busses, vans. Thousands of people travel there daily in day and evening, NOT in middle of the night! Same closing convenient stores on the quietest hours of the day. Had someone in this regime any brain that thinks proper and looks whats happening in other countries with mass of people together. But what about ppl having no money and roam the streets in the night to look for some? As many said, not much savings for the average Thai person ... without a job. This could get ugly. Plus the numbers given up to now are pathetic and an insult to even the stupidest in society. This curfew will just squeeze the life out of the people even more. The country is gonna be in a dreadful state when this thing is declared over and borders open, etc again. If the economy doesn't collapse completely i'll be amazed Imo.It's all about the bed count. So far thailand is managing it. That's "the point"

I note your omission of the word 'genuine' which should have (but did not) appeared between the words 'few' and 'cases'. I do not believe the numbers the Thailand government have released and keep releasing. I believe they are massaged in the same way as the TAT numbers are massaged, and for the same reason; to keep the public calm, uncomplaining and optimistic that they are being looked after as a government should.
