Report German Drug Dealer Arrested in Major Pattaya Sting Operation
Picture courtesy of Matichon In a significant breakthrough, Pattaya police have arrested a major drug dealer following a successful sting operation. The suspect, a 42-year-old German man known as Mike, was apprehended with over 427 grammes of cocaine and a firearm, marking the culmination of an operation aimed at tackling foreign drug dealers in the area. Mike, notable for his distinctive full-body tattoos, had been operating under the guise of a legitimate businessman, running a barbershop and sports club in central Pattaya. However, recent investigations revealed his real trade was in supplying cocaine to foreign nationals. Under the leadership of Police Colonel Anek Sathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Narcotics Suppression Unit and NSB 2. Determined to catch Mike in the act, the authorities arranged for an undercover agent to purchase 2 grammes of cocaine for 5,000 baht. The transaction was planned to take place in a parking lot, where Mike, attempting to appear inconspicuous, sat in a local fried chicken shop pretending to be a tourist. However, once the deal was completed, he quickly left the venue, attempting to escape on his motorcycle to a bar in Soi Bua Khao. Picture courtesy of Matichon Despite his efforts to flee, police were close on his trail and managed to arrest him moments later. At the scene, officers found 2.61 grammes of cocaine along with the money from the transaction. A subsequent search of his residence unveiled an additional 424 grammes of cocaine and the handgun, with the seized drugs valued at nearly half a million baht. During his initial interrogation, Mike gave incoherent statements but confessed that he received his supply from a fellow German, purchasing it for 2,500-3,000 baht per gramme. He disclosed that they routinely handled quantities up to 1 kilogramme, distributing to foreigners in Pattaya, with profits split between them. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Pattaya police to combat drug trafficking within the region, particularly focusing on foreign nationals. With Mike now in custody, the authorities hope to dismantle his network and prevent further damage to the local community. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-06-17 -
