Worldometers is now giving stats for COVID-19 testing in Thailand per 1m population. 

 

Currently Thailand only tests 339 per 1 million 

 

As a comparison here's a few others:

 

UK: 2,560 per 1 mil

US: 4,097 per 1 mil

Italy: 10,252 per 1 mil

France: 3,436 per 1 mil

Australia: 11,233 per 1 mil

The new virus is another typical coronavirus. The spreading rate is much slower in tropical countries. Otherwise, Thailand would have been much worse than northern Italy long ago with much more Chinese tourists per year. 

 

Thais have taken this also quite seriously. Wearing mask has become almost mandatory in shopping malls and other shops. Many markets have been closed.

There's a big difference between dying with the virus and dying of it. The failure to

acknowledge this is falsely inflating Corona 19 death stats. If you doubt me, do a search on the sky-high death rate in Italy.

Of course - Nobody is dying of CVD 19 in Thailand. Heck - it's probably not even here. Maybe it's not real at all!

So you think the peak is over after a mass exodus from Bangkok not even 1 week ago? COVID-19 has a long incubation period, and we have seen in every country that infections and deaths are both delayed because of it. Examples of this are seen in countries that implement strong lockdown. The UK for example has locked things down now for 2 weeks, and yesterday saw the highest rise in infections and deaths in a single day. Everything is extremely delayed with this virus. 
Exporting tens of thousands of people from the virus hub of Thailand all over the country, hasn't even had time to show it's effect yet. Couple that with extremely low testing you then have your 'low numbers' Let's be realistic here.

Have you thought maybe they are not testing that many because not many people are showing up at hospital with symptoms? If you have symptoms they will test you.

goodness. Have you been keeping up with current affairs? People are dying a lot, the best estimate right now is 3.5% of people are dying, it is dangerous for everyone. We all have to do our bit to avoid infection of yourself and in turn our families and so forth. Time to face facts fella and wake up! This is not overblown news hype, we are in a global pandemic, it is a very contagious disease that can make you very sick. As for hidden agenda well most of the world is trashing its economies in order to tackle the virus. So are you suggesting that all the leaders of all the countries in the world have a secret agenda that all the people cannot know? WAKE UP AND STOP BEING A BUFFOON!

Agree, what a brilliant plan, wait until they are sick to test them. brilliant plan and a really good way of tackling the virus. Do you think he is aware that the virus has a pretty long incubation period and that the symptoms are not consistent, most people have mild symptoms, some get flu, some get very sick and die. Testing is the only way to tackle the virus. At the end of the day it has been said by many now that its too late and impossible to stop, all we can do is flatten the spike on infections so the health services dont fall over, it is going to run its course.

There's too many deaf ears and blind eyes. Some won't believe how deadly this virus is until people are starting to collapse around them. Perfectly healthy and fit people and not just the sick and elderly. Let's just hope they get so wrapped up in their conspiracy theories that we don't have to deal with them anymore.

Why would you think that if you had symptoms they would test you. This is Thailand, and if you have the money to pay for it maybe you can get a test, but normal people as has been stated many times in different OPS are sent home with meds and told to quarantine for 14 days.  Do you think that if they died at home the body would be tested to see what they died of, start thinking outside of the box.  This does not just hit the old and people with pre-existing conditions.  My daughter is a surgical ICU Nurse and has a 6 month old baby and 17 year old boy die from this at her hospital in the US.  It takes all kinds to be a self righteous person and believe they know what is really happening as far as testing and treatment....

A lot of you expatriate keyboard warriors paint a gloomy picture of nation that you choose to call your home, ie LOS. Are you British, American, Spanish or heaven forbid Italian. Pray tell everyone where would you rather be now in the country of your birth or here. Sure a lot less people are tested here than elsewhere, & i assume many are to scared to go to hospital to be tested, just like every other nation out there. I'm a British Citizen living here in Thailand, but i need to go back to the UK to work, Will i go back, can I go back?  No way will I, I feel a lot safer here than the place of my birth, & i'm sure you lot do to. So please you keyboard warriors. Let us all start writing about some positive issues, regarding Covid 19, instead of the dross i get fed with by you lot every day. Some of you are an absolute embarrassment. Slagging one another off in the security of your own little cocoon. A lot of us are senior citizens & i'm sure It would be far better for everybody, if all of us expatriates wrote about intelligent issues. Their is less people that have been tested for Covid 19 here in Thailand than have died in the UK. Thank your lucky stars that your here.

Nice to hear someone who has his head screwed on over this. Shame we cant all think alike, perhaps if we did we really would have a fighting chance of cutting the life of this virus. I suspect it is now going to run its course with millions infected and hundreds of thousands losing their lives. stay safe fella, good luck. Oh, and hats off to your daughter.

there is a big difference between "painty a gloomy picture" and getting to grips with the facts. This is a very serious issue, one like we have never seen,, fact, face it, treat is seriously. I would 100% rather be in the UK then in a country that cant even test people to understand the spread. Also I would rather be here (in the UK) because I know what the situation is, there is very clear advice and should things go wrong for me and I contract it i have medical help on my doorstep without the demand of 20,000 baht just to step in the door. Im glad you were not around to fight the war instead of my Grandfather....

Corona virus comes in many dozens of forms but there is only one variety identified as Covid-19.

 

Covid 19 is much more communicable and more virulent than the other Corona viruses.

 

The test For covid-19 takes a couple of days to complete in a specialist lab that's not overstressed - and much longer than this when overloaded. Thailand (and most other nations too) is only doing the short test initially.

 

The quick tests that are needing to be done on the spot are inconclusive and detect ALL strains of corona, including Covid-19.

 

Therefore all positives are told to go away and see what happens in isolation. If they get better it's flu. If they get worse it's covid and they're hospitalised (if they can afford it).

 

The UK, for instance last week had 20,000 cases of covid, but this was out of 128,000 people who tested positive and were self isolated. Therefore 15% of the "positives" had got covid. The remaining 85% had either flu or something else.

 

In the northern  hemisphere this is running parallel with seasonal flu, which alone causes 17,000 deaths in the UK every year. Thailand averages far less; 6,000 to 7,000 cases of flu per year.

 

With the indecisive testing process and the added Covid cases on top of the already-existing life-threatening seasonal flu cases, health services and hospitals aren't able to cope - hence the Thai Gov's advice to self-isolate to see what happens.

 

In a month (or so) the seasonal flu will disappear, and we wait to see what happens to the covid - whether it is more resilient, or whether it also dies away.

 

But my feeling is that if you normally don't get seasonal flu, even without having annual vaccinations (and Thailnd rarely ever gets any cases in the south, only in central and northern areas) then you have roughly only a 15% chance of getting Covid -  OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT'S IT'S NOW BEING TRANSMITTED MAINLY BY SURFACE CONTACT. Constant hand-cleansing is vital.

 

The actual numbers here are as usual - in Thailand, anyway - pulled out of a hat (other than possibly the deaths) as you can bet your lung-dissolving life that no officials in Thailand now have the faintest idea - other than the fact it's rampant . . . shhhh - it's a secret.

It is absolutely frightening to see how many posters here believe the virus is retreating. This has a long way to go before it will be safe to be out and about socializing at your favorite night spots the way you did 2 months ago. I would think that the incredibly high numbers of dead and dying folk around the world as well as the overburdened medical facilities and staff might have struck some sense of reality into some of you. You people are downright scary

Excuse me for being pedantic, but COVID-19 is the disease which is caused by the virus named SARS-CoV-2. 

 

I'd just like to point that one out because the virus is closely related to the SARS-CoV virus from the 2003 epidemic.

i have no words. Carry on as usual, mix in crowds, eat out and go buy stuff from the shop wherever you can. The rest of the sensible people in the world will carry on doing their bit to beat the virus. I guess you will be one of the cannon fodder.
