It's claimed if one can live past age 3 in Afghanistan, the person will live to 90 in the absence of being shot or knifed. Because said person will have been exposed to every conceivable pathogen.

However, as the infant mortality rate in Afghanistan is the highest in the world, there is a price to pay.

I'm guessing that many more people are getting ill and dying prematurely due to the burning than ever will be the case with the virus. But WE'RE USED TO IT so it doesn't matter. Prayuth was up there recently and pronounced that the practice had to stop. It didn't. They can close down Bangkok but they can't do what seems like a relatively simple thing like arresting village headmen etc.
