Driving to Chiang Rai

Featured Replies

Hi, might have to drive up to Chiang Rai city, was wondering if anyone has done this drive in the last week since the partial lock-down started. Not sure what to expect crossing province boundaries. Have read about a tracking app i might need to download and forms to fill out on the way. Has anyone any knowledge of what the roads are like, thanks in advance.

From my US Embassy in Bangkok Embassy mailing ([email protected]) on Saturday:

Chiang Rai: Beginning April 1, the governor of Chiang Rai province ordered the search of all vehicles entering the province. Authorities will not allow the entry of travelers who cannot explain why they need to enter the province, travelers who are not wearing a mask, and travelers who do not cooperate with health officials. Anyone entering the province will need to provide their contact details and undergo a health screening.  The announcement is available in Thai on the province's Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1910729662393830&id=165001746966639&__tn__=%2As%2As-R

Then after you leave, will you be allowed back in?

"The Chiang Mai Communicable Disease Committee’s Order No. 6/2020 on urgent measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, effective from today, April 2, will require any foreign national visiting Chiang Mai to be confined for 14 days in accommodation provided by the Department of Disease Control unless they have their own home in the province. In the latter case, they must remain in their home for a 14 day period."
