Curfew Day 2: Three hundred curfew breakers will face the courts

Daily News reported that the police will press charges against 308 people who violated curfew conditions between 10 pm on Saturday and 4 am on Sunday.

National police deputy spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen said there were 836 curfew checkpoints nationwide manned by 9,141 police and thousands of others from protection agencies and the military.

The great majority of the  vehicles stopped - 14,344 - and people checked -19,312 - were out legitimately or were warned.

Only 308 will get to court.

The courts have the power to imprison and impose heavy fines.

In another Daily News story a Thai woman went on Facebook to say she didn't get home in time in Bangkok.

And there was a 40,000 baht receipt to show her fine.

The story said that Thong Lor police had issued their first fine.

And the 300 others that got arrested

I expect everyone knows the time to stay home. But that 40000 fine is really huge.

As they are talking about "people", we can assume no farang is part of this group.

..and, yet, even though everyone isn't on FB and Line, hard to imagine people aren't (through word of mouth and television) getting up to speed that there's a big crisis going on that includes evolving public policy even policies that have to do with who can/should go where/when.

its actually great to see the police doing their jobs for once, the receipt would mean the money didnt go in their pockets as well, just maybe others will now think twice before doing it themselves........nah, not doing as they please does not compute

Our private park in the moobaan has huge warning signs, no walking/playing/fitness and so on....the thai can't be bothered though and do it nonstop. They also don't wear mouthmasks and don't keep distance...

Must be a great moneyspinner for the Bib while their brothels and other nefarious business activities are on lockdown.

And all those sleeping on the street or under bridge?

Throw them all in jail.

All they are doing is forcing a future 24 hour lock down.

It surely is...

Giving a  fine is  one thing, getting the money is an entirely  different  matter.

Yes, I am wondering what they do with a Thai that has no money. 40,000 baht is a year's income to many rural Thais.

A 40,000 baht fine is the same as 200 motorbike riders (Thais) with no helmets.... serious kerching..

wouldn't surprise me if they receive fines too

40,000 Baht...they obviously didn't know 'who she is' !

Rightly so. but,

Everyone knows the speed limits.

Everyone knows the meaning of the colors of the traffic lights

Everyone knows the dangers of u-turns

Everyone knows about modifications to exhausts systems

Everyone knows about calling and texting while driving

Everyone knows the dangers to others when double parking on the busiest roads

And what else...

So let's just hope that the new order of these fines will influence the rest of the 'Mai bpen rai' behaviours in Thailand

plus with the acts on Samui, Phuket and Pattaya that lock down is almost a given..

The exact same attitude that many take every day with the laws in Thailand.

Its just selfish and arrogant.

It must be tough for the homeless people including those sleeping under the bridge.  I remember staying at a hotel in Chinatown in the late 90's.  We, Aussie G/f and I, went for a walk and to find a restaurant for dinner before dark.  Walking back to the hotel a couple of hours later after the shops were shut it seemed like every second doorway had a homeless person sleeping there.  Wind the clock forward to 2016 and my Thai wife and I stayed at another hotel in Chinatown and went for our evening walk before dinner and discovered a similar scene with homeless people.  D@mned tough in Bangkok if you're out of luck and on the bottom of the pile!
