Closure of Pattaya set to begin on Thursday 9 April

 

 

The proposed lockdown of Pattaya - closing the city to people who are not residents -  will begin from 2pm on Thursday 9 April, City Hall confirmed on Tuesday.

 

The closure will see movement into the city restricted, with 24 hour checkpoints set up to screen people at various locations throughout the city and will be in place until the situation regarding COVID-19 improves. 

 

Officials said there will be five checkpoints to stop people entering: Soi Chaiyapornwithee, Soi Phon Prapha Nimit, Soi Chaiyapruek, the Motorway Route 7 section 5 and the Ayakan Intersection.

 

Sukhumvit Road will be sealed off to outsiders and only traversable by locals.

 

People passing through the checkpoints will have their temperature taken.

 

 

People with genuine reason to be in Pattaya will be allowed entry. For foreigners, expect hospital visits and trips to immigration to be permitted.

 

People will need to have their documentation and IDs in order and some, particularly employees working in Pattaya will be urged to make special ID cards. Foreigners should carry their passports with them.

 

Details of the closure were released after the Banglamung District Chief and Pattaya Mayor chaired a meeting on Tuesday attended by the police chiefs from the five stations in the Pattaya area about the best way forward.

 

There are now 30 Covid-19 cases in Pattaya - 15 foreigners and 15 Thais.

 

The order to close the city is the latest measure introduced to try and stop the spread of coronavirus. 

 

The official advice to people in Pattaya and throughout Thailand is to remain indoors and only go outside if absolutely necessary. If you need to go outdoors, wear a mask.

 

 

Checkpoints

Point 1 Soi Chaiyapornwithee

Point 2 Motorway Road 7 section 5 (in front of highway patrol)

Point 3 Phon Prapha Nimit (in front of mae la grilled fish shop)

Point 4 Soi Chaiyapruek (before the intersection of railroad in front of coffee shop)

Point 5 Sukhumvit Road before the prosecutor's office (under the overpass in front of na jomtien temple)

Could this be to stop masses fleeing Bangkok coming here much as they did during the flooding a few years ago?

It would be a fascinating experiment. Close it off - no one enters, no one leaves. Open everything back up with the normal "rules". See where we stand in 3 months. Of course, everyone over 60, or with pre-existing conditions, would be cr@pping themselves. But, we would learn a lot about "herd immunity" very quickly.

I suppose/hope supply from outside Pattaya will still be allowed.

Definitely a lock in.....100s and 100s of foreigners crammed into queues down at immigration over last 3 weeks....and then traveling back to their to their homes/ hotels scattered all over Pattaya.......absolute lunacy on at an unprecedented level.

Looks as though us folks on the east side of the railway may be going hungry!  The only supermarket of any size on the Darkside is 'The Chill' on Khao Noi.  We have quite a few convenience stores but all the large supermarkets are to the west of Sukhumvit.

 

How many damn dates have they annouced,it seems everyday a different time day is quoted.

How long has it been you have been outside???? you have been in QT a bit too long I think dude....many many supermarkets on the darkside large and small...you sure you even live here dude????

Really, please enlighten us to where they are then?

Tops Khao Noi is the only one that you can truly call a supermarket, sure there are a lot of Tesco Lotus Express, Mini Big C etc. but these are not supermarkets, they are convenience stores, with next to no choice of food available.

There is the frozen place on Soi Siam by the Shell petrol station, never been in there, so cannot comment on this one.

Otherwise, there are no supermarkets of note.

PS I've lived on the darkside for well over 20 years before you ask and still do!

i tested the herd immunity last oct in Pattaya. believe me, you don't want it.

The "FreshFood" supermarket on Soi Siam by the fuel station, is actually not bad, though like Tops, a lot more pricey than Tesco Lotus or Big C. More expensive on most things than even Foodland actually, but a fairly wide range of fresh stuff.

If the railway road is the final cut off, then even the Lotus near Numchai will be out of reach, (though allowing darksiders access to it and shutting the entrance there to Sukhumvit would make sense),and not sure the locals can afford to be paying 40 or 50% extra for their groceries at Tops and Freshfood right now.

Hopefully some of the finer points of practicality will be in the final details.

A lot of action for a very limited number of infections and death tolls. Guess the published numbers are fake and controlled by the military

more than 15 years here - and please see post #19!

Assuming shopping in e.g. in Laem Chabang and Satthahip should be still possible

Never been to that one, so cannot comment, I might give it a whirl and was going by the map, so was discounting Tesco by Numchai, although you are quite right, it would not be difficult to make it accessible.

There certainly isn't much choice if you consider the darkside only, hopefully as you say, all will be revealed once the details are released.

The confirmatory announcement is a bit late, they must be struggling to agree

Darksiders can still roam free, but need to enter the center of darkness for supermarkets. Where's the closest not inside the quarantine area?

I wonder how Makro will look tomorrow, before the lockdown. Luckily we've prepared, would not want to be there.
