Well, for all of you who have never had any problems - lucky you.

I use a fee free UK credit card to get my cash. Used to use ATM's but as the ATM fee grew and the exchange rate fell, i was having to use the ATM 3 times a month because of a 500 GBP cash withdrawal limit and it was costing me up to 600 baht in ATM fees. So a few years ago i decided to try the counter withdrawal. Tried in Central Plaza in Udon Thani. Result -

Kasikorn said use ATM ....

Krungri just refused ....

SCB did it but charged a fee higher than the ATM.

That put me off for a while. Later i tried a small sub-branch of Krungsri at Homepro. They didn't really know how to do it but kept trying till it worked..... they became quite proficient after a couple of months. Unfortunately they closed in January, they were the nearest to home. Have found 2 other Krungsri branches which will do it now. Seems banks at Central like to screw falangs (also an absolute pain to open an account there these days). So the OP's experience doesn't surprise me one bit.
