Pattaya: It's official - city in lockdown from today - ALL to wear masks outside

2pm.jpg

The Chonburi governor Pakathorn Tienchai has put his name to the lock down order shutting Pattaya.

The lockdown was expected and comes into force officially from today. It will be in place until further notice.

Only residents, people working in the city or others with a good reason to be there will be allowed in. People should carry their full ID. Foreigners should carry their passport.

Temperature checks and checks for symptoms of fever will be made at checkpoints.

People of all nationalities are to wear masks when outside their homes and places of stay.

Failure to wear a mask when outside may result in fines or even jail.

Any foreign workers who need to enter the city can find an English language version of the application form for an entry pass here.

Checkpoints have been set up at various locations throughout the city including:

Point 1 Soi Chaiyapornwithee

Point 2 Motorway Road 7 section 5 (in front of highway patrol)

Point 3 Phon Prapha Nimit (in front of mae la grilled fish shop)

Point 4 Soi Chaiyapruek (before the intersection of railroad in front of coffee shop)

Point 5 Sukhumvit Road before the prosecutor's office (under the overpass in front of na jomtien temple)

The order to close the city is the latest measure introduced to try and stop the spread of coronavirus.

The official advice to people in Pattaya and throughout Thailand is to remain indoors and only go outside if absolutely necessary.

This morning a few falang about with no mask

Does the mask rule apply within a mooban?

Does the passport rule apply if I'm just walking along, far from any checkpoint?

Yes, I'd like to know also.

Many kids playing every afternoon without masks.

Drove through at 10am, Suk, Pattaya Tai, Darkside ; not a road block in sight, so they had better get their running shoes on if they want to establish them by 2pm

Me too.

Doesn't seem a lot of sense waering a mask at 06:00 when I'm out walking the dog.  Hardly anyone about at that time in my moobaan.

And I just came back from a trip to soi Siam Country Club and the only people I saw without masks were locals. Walking and on scooters. Others had masks but had them pulled under their chins.

Saw a couple of foreigners, one was jogging, all were wearing masks.

Seems pretty clear. Just wear a mask outside all the time. It may not seem necessary when not close to people, but it is upsetting to some, and it may make you a target.

I just went down the railroad tracks and all the small roads are barricaded.  I also saw several trucks with concrete barriers queued up on sukhumvit.

Name places in Jomtien, pratumnak, Naklua, khoa Talo where they can be purchased...I think that's the problem, they are just not easily available and haven't been for 6 weeks...I'm more worried about people...Thais especially that touched my trolley in Makro for no reason and come right close to you at any 7/11....

Pattaya goes into lockdown from 2pm today

By THE NATION

Pattaya city will shut down from 2pm on Thursday (April 9), Chonburi Governor Pakarathorn Thienchai announced on Wednesday (April 8 ) following advice from the Chonburi Communicable Disease Control Committee.

“The shutdown will last 21 days and will limit entry points to the city to only five,” he said. “All vehicles and persons passing through these checkpoints will be thoroughly screened to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”

The governor added that those who are not residents of the city or do not have a workplace in the city will not be allowed in except in emergency cases.

Sukhumvit Road leading to Pattaya will be closed at Krathingrai flyover where traffic will be redirected to Liab Thang Rot Fai Road instead. The five checkpoints that will still be open are:

1 Soi Chaiporn Withi

2 Motorway Route 7 Section 5

3 Soi Pornprapha Nimit

4 Soi Chaiyaphreug

5 Sukhumvit Road (before the District Attorney Office)

The governor issued an order that all people in Pattaya must wear face masks in public. He also amended a previous closure order and allowed some markets to reopen to reduce crowds in markets that had been allowed to open during the government’s shutdown order.

“Those who have a necessity to travel can apply for permission at any district office,” added the governor.

Really? Are you serious? Of course they mean that´s the place where most will get caught. However, if people see you walking without mask anywhere and report you, you WILL be fined. Exactly like it should be. Maybe this will get rid of irresponsible people risking other peoples health.

very suprised they've revealed the checkpoints

Of course. It's outside. You are not a separate nation state. Viruses ignore security gates.

Within a housing village who will issue the fines.

It's a gated community.

I can only imagine how horendes the traffic in Pattaya will be for the next couple weeks where a whole city traffic is diverted to a handful of checkpoints which is according to the Pattaya administration is done so to discourage people from going outside.

walk along soi Buakhao you'll see lot's of seamstress women making the masks, also on Pattaya Tai past tukcom shops are selling them. Also pharmacies have them, one example is the Pharmacy at the top of Soi Diana.

There isn't a good choice, surgical masks are probably the best ones you'll find, most people wear the cotton ones

why are you talking cobblers? he was asking where he will be checked for a passport, the answer is at the new checkpoints per the announcement.  Around town, wearing a mask its unnecessary carrying your passport but you go ahead

No, it´s not unnecessary to carry your passport. That is one of the things you are always told to do. I even believe that it´s written in the law.

Your knowledge is out of date, a copy is sufficient and has been discussed on here many times. I've been stopped at police checkpoints about 15 times for checks on tax and MC licence and not once did they ask for a passport

Thanks for the update. Was up and down Khao Noi this morning and saw a couple of brownies around near the RR tracks. My bitter half is about to cross. Let's see what we see. I toughing it out for a few days. All reports welcome.
