Pattaya: It's official - city in lockdown from today - ALL to wear masks outside

Doesn't seem a lot of sense waering a mask at 06:00 when I'm out walking the dog.  Hardly anyone about at that time in my moobaan

So don't wear one and find out the hard way, carry some cash just in case.

Why is everyone so paranoid. Almost everyone will end up getting this virus sooner or later anyway. We will not reach herd immunity until + or - 80% have gotten it, and either recovered or succumbed. We can not stay on lock down for the rest of our lives.

If we did nothing like some countries, this would all be over by now.

Which countries have done nothing and its all over now ?

The virus will die out if there is nobody to spread it to. If you stay in your house and I stay in my house, there is no way we can get/give each other the virus, 3 weeks later when nobody has the virus, because they stayed home, nobody can spread the virus, its over

Thanks for this Dr. Nobrains. I'll inform the WHO and save the planet

If this forum is a microcosm of the planet we're doomed

Hmmm, with the lock down in Pattaya, it seems those on the darksidecould still drive/ride to Ban Chang. Not sure what the powers that be have regulated there, but I'm sure there are a bunch of locals in need of support, especially the ones that work (or used to) on a certain soi there.

That'd be a hoot - us on the Darkside can still drive around but the people in Pattaya proper are stuck in the city !

There are a few check points when crossing into Rayong province, so there is a possibility you will have issues getting to Ban Chang without a valid reason

Agreed - this pandemic has made me realize that there are more idiots around than I thought there was

And 6 weeks from now the airlines start flying again & Africans, Chinese, Indians, half of the middle east etc return to thailand again, and it starts the next cycle. The only way out is for everyone to get infected, and then the virus has no one left to infect. only then will it die out. not after 3 weeks of a semi lockdown being practiced at different times, at different places all over the world.

Here is an interesting presentation for anyone that might have extra time on their hands at the moment.

Fortunately, parts of the world are waking up to all of this silliness now, so it will soon be over, accept for all those who have never been exposed to the virus yet.

so is it complicated to cross the checkpoints to go shopping ?

how can they be so stupid to cut pattaya in 2 parts ? darkside is pattaya also...

so idiots they are bord so idiots they will die, incredible !

Maybe not stupid at all. Maybe just because they know what part the most, or maybe all of those in Pattaya that get infected lived or work. You have to be a little bit smarter before you call anyone an idiot.

More to the point why are there any foreigners still in Pattaya in the first place.

They've all had time to abort the country completely or move to another city even if only a temporary measure

Now we'll hear farang whinging left right and centre. With the 10 day booze ban as well coming shortly they must be gluttons for punishment

Dear me, you need to get out more.

For many Pattaya is home and are happy to stay. If booze is a life line, enough notice has/will be given, so everyone is stocked up. Life is OK in Pattaya if you have prepared. The streets are nice and quiet, food delivery services via Food Panda, Grab or individual restaurants are very good (if your are not a Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen) and ipads, etc., fully charged. No punishment here, only reading daft comments from those who obviously need help...

He should be arrested for Budgie smuggling!

I’m not sure if Budgies are effected by Covid 19 - the endangered pangolins- maybe.

Actually seems much busier on the darkside today - more traffic - everyone whizzing around through the back doubles .

I stocked up on tins of chickpeas - they are very versatile!

I have a friend who is a Tesco manager in NI. He says, in store, the amount of people who ignore guidance and generally don't give a f1ck about their fellow human beings is staggering.

Here in the UK we are getting bombarded on a daily basis with loving tales of dogoodery. Personally, i think 99% of people are c1nts.

Sadly, no matter how many times i analysis this problem i come to the same conclusion. If this virus mutates we are f1cked, if the vaccine only lasts a certain length of time we are f1cked and if your immunity only lasts a certain length of time we are f1cked.

First in line to be f1cked are global travellers and that includes those of us crossing the globe a few times a year to visit Thailand.

Standing in line at BBK to get your passport stamped looks a long way away.

Agreed. I've been living on the Darkside for a few years now (and in South Pattaya for a few years before that). Booze isn't an issue, got plenty of food (and water) and books. It's been rather pleasant sitting on a lawn chair on the patio reading and enjoying the peace and quiet.

No reason to leave the country and really nowhere to go if I did. This is home now (well, such as it can be when you aren't a citizen).

As for wearing the masks and carrying ID. It's like anything. People balk in the beginning but after awhile they all start complying with the rules because that's how society works. Sometimes the changes are met with resistance in the beginning, like when seatbelt use started becoming mandatory, or when they started cracking down on drinking and driving, or when they starting limiting where people could smoke, but eventually most everyone falls in line.

There will always be some who think the rules don't apply to them but you can bet even they comply because they don't want to face the consequences, regardless of what they may claim otherwise (from a safe location of course).

That'd be one of the blockcades. As can be seen, extremely hard to go through with, say, a motocy.

There'll be ways for scooters to get through. The Mail and assorted Delivery guys are still making their runs and probably get waved through. Would be curious to see if they actually were directing all traffic through those couple of choke points. I can imagine huge traffic jams and tons of motos snaking through the traffic.

Around 6 pm, I entered Pattaya from the darkside through the Chai Yaporn check point on my motorbike. So much traffic and people, it’s like judgement's day. Separate lanes for cars and motorbikes. They checked my temperature but in the chaos did not ask for my documents (I had my passport and condo rent agreement ready). The had a large tent on the side with officers to refer to plead your case if one is declined passage through. Can't imagine the chaos when it gets darker at night.

The traffic is few kilometers long and moves very slowly. Was not easy on a motorbike with the benefit of zigzagging through cars. If you in a car, good luck.

At occassional and unpredictable times I have to take medicine to ward off a certainly debilitating and possible fatal episode. I have to lower my mask to do this, and no it cannot be done in one gulp over a fountain. Am I in danger of facing jail, if not a public pummeling?

Don't worry.  Wuhan airports are open again.  The Chinese tourists will soon return

Aren't you also supposed to have a special form detailing why you need to enter Pattaya ? (I know, useless if they aren't checking anyways, but that could change in a minute or an hour or the next shift change).
I was kind of curious if they just look at the form or if they stamp it or if they keep it and you have to make a new one every time you "cross over to the light" (from the dark.......side).

Are the golf courses there closed now?

when money talks, you are probably not far off. There is a very large (and growing) group of conspiracy theorists that are convinced the Chinese planned all of this.

I did not have that form but was quite confident the condo lease agreement and my Thai driving licence and passport with Long stay visa would be enough. I just went through the check point on purpose to test the water. If I was declined entry, I had plan B to walk home ????

Brilliant Sherlock.

Let's create a virus that not only could wipe out are own country, but one that spreads to all our customer's countries so their economies are driven into the ground and then they will not be able to buy any goods we make.

You aren't one of the people in the UK climbing 5G masts to set them on fire are you?

Apparently, the internet says that these are spreading coronavirus and of course the chinese created this as well.
