Why is every post complaining about video ads

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Why is every post complaining about video ads being locked and posters referred to a 6 week old, locked thread?

Has anyone at [email protected] seen my 22 emails about this issue?

First the pop-ups... unresolved.

Then the invasive banners... unresolved.

Then the 'jumping'... unresolved.

Now the persistent video ad pop-up... seriously making reading any posts almost impossible.

Everyone should send at least a dozen emails to [email protected] every day until the understand.

Thanks!

NL

There are now so many advertisements that normal reading is made virtually impossible. And the way it is implemented shows quite a bit of amateurism. I don't think people at Thaivisa have the knowledge to do it right.

As a result, I'm now looking for a way to block EVERYTHING. With the result that they will no longer earn anything at all.

Aren't adverts the only way for the site owners (who provide a free service and advice and "entertainment" to members) to make the money required to provide that free service and entertainment to members?   On my screen there's an "X" on all the ads that makes them go away if you don't want to see them.

Yes. That works till you put 21 ads on 1 page and force people to install ad blockers.

The video pop up add is so annoying... it even just popped up when I am writing this sentence!!!

I am partially blind and have to have the text larger on my monitor so I can read it.  So when this add pops up it really fills most of the screen and I can not read anything!  I have many times clicked on it to shut it down, but it jumps about a bit, and so I miss the X and end up going to another site, or accidently closing down Thai Visa.

With so many complaints about this one video add, surely this site can get rid of it for its members?

I ran an ad blocker here for the 1st time the other day and it clocked in at 106 ads.

106 lol!

People with a brain in their head see no ads on TV or other sites.

Yes, but maybe you are not seeing this one video add.  It is very intrusive and inconvenient, and actually it did not have a X on it a few weeks back, so you could not even shut the thing down.

If the site cares about giving free service, advice and entertainment to its members, from all the complaints about only this 1 add (the others are fine), then they must know their members might stop using the site as it makes the experience so frustrating and annoying.

There is no issue for me on the phone reading TV, but it is on my laptop!!

By making the site unusable for many potential users, they are probably making less money than they would with a less ridiculous number of ads. This is clearly being done on the orders of some inexperienced manager further up the chain who never uses the site but have been ordered to create more revenue. He probably has no idea why traffic is falling.

On a forum, the main content is actually provided by the members. True, TVF has some staff cutting and pasting news stories from elsewhere, but I think most of the moderators are actually volunteers. That is why they are so touchy about any criticism of their bad decisions and overreactions.

Probably the best example of how self-defeating all these ads and tracking scripts are is that one of the scripts sometimes prevents users from submitting comments, thereby reducing the amount of content. On any forum, the overwhelming majority of users never post anything, so, it is a good idea to encourage engagement rather than prevent it.

This is just part of the life-cycle of forums once their golden age has passed. In trying to squeeze every penny they can out of it, they slowly kill it. Then a younger, less jaded group will come along with a new forum offering users a far better experience. For a few years, anyway.

I installed a completely different browser only for Thai Visa In which I completely disabled javascript. No more trouble.

Trying to view in a my standard browser was making my laptop overheat and the fan to go into overdrive. No doubt would break at some point, not to mention how extremely annoying it is to try to read anything with all the flashing garbage on the site. Thai visa is by far the worst run forum I have encountered. Seems like 14 yr olds in the year 1995 are operating it.

I am sure that when the moderators discover this thread, they will engage in a reasonable discussion and address these problems in a straightforward, honest manner.

If it's on your laptop, then it is your fault.

Advice has already been given as to how to avoid that state of affairs.

Use a Browser that blocks by default or install an Ad-Blocker. It's really not that difficult.

This is a private blog.

The blogowners can do what they want to do with the blog.

In this time where there is all this confusion about thai visa amnesty etc, this blog is the most informative place I have seen on the internet.

Adds like it or not, but where else, we can get the same information and help each other ?

Maybe the blogowners could consider an add free pay version of the blog ?

I understand it costs money to run a blog like this, the money can come in 2 ways: Adds or userpayment, what do you prefer ?

The TV Forum numbers must be thru the roof with C-19

All those Chicken Littles running around spewing Doom and Gloom.

I asked for a pay-to-not-see Ads option

Never heard a word back.

So - went another way

Became unusable on my iPad and pretty bad on my iPhone, sourced a solution and happy.

Don’t wait for El Queijo !!

This forum is for "support" , that is technical issues or functional problems you may be encountering around the forum or help you may need to carry out a task or function of general use issues etc.

It is not a complaint desk, nor a place to off load frustrations.

If you entered any other forum here and the first page was ALL THE SAME  topic you would be quick to complain about that.

The topics here have been closed as "asked and answered" It is pointless opening a new topic on the same thing, furthermore there is a pinned notice from Admin addressing that very issue and there is nothing more to add to it at this time, hence the referral to that notice.

When there is something new it will be updated.

The OP should not be commenting on the closure or removal etc of anything on this forum as that violates forum rule 10.

10) Do not comment on moderation publicly in the open forum; this includes individual actions, and specific or general policies and issues. This also includes posting an emoticon in response to a public notice made by a moderator.

You may send a PM to a moderator to discuss individual actions or email support (at) thaivisa.com to discuss moderation policy.

This topic will now be closed for exactly the same reason, "asked and answered".

Refer to Pinned Notice:

If you have complaints or questions concerning the policy here they should be directed to "support" via email  as stated in forum rule 10.
