Chonburi officials earmark 1 May for lifting of restrictions and partial return to normality

Officials in Chonburi have earmarked 1 May as a possible date for businesses to reopen in the province.

The date is dependent on the COVID-19 situation in the province continuing to improve.

In an order released late on Tuesday, officials said that if the COVID-19 situation does not worsen then most businesses can resume trading.

Some of the business types listed included spas, gyms, restaurants, bars and convenience stores.

Also on Wednesday, officials said that some businesses - mainly electronic stores and mobile phone repair shops can resume trading immediately, providing they put social distancing measures in place.

While a return to the pre-COVID-19 days can’t come soon enough for businesses and workers, it may be several months before Pattaya is open to international tourists and restrictions are lifted fully.

The news comes as health officials in Thailand suggested that restrictions can be eased in some areas, provided it is not done all at once and everywhere.

Due to the recent drop in new COVID-19 cases, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired a meeting which could signal an easing of restrictions for businesses forced to close during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to The Nation, Dr Amorn Leelarasamee, president of the Medical Association of Thailand said the lifting of some restrictions is possible, but social distancing must continue to be practiced.

Dr Amorn added that even if restrictions are lifted, arrivals in Thailand should continue to be placed under quarantine and that entertainment venues such as bars and restaurants should be last to reopen.

With an estimated 2800 tourists left in Pattaya, that would be no problem, as it would amount to about 1 customer for each bar

That's as good a social distance as one could hope for????

Even more months before other countries allow their citizen to travel abroad, if not until next year.

....and even longer for citizens to be able to get the new requirements that Thailand will demand - i.e. certificate virus free

Another news site says

“all businesses will reopen as of May 1, IF the situation does not worsen.”

Hotels.

Fitness.

Restaurants dine in.

Massage.

All public areas.

All shops in all areas.

*Bars was not mentioned.

My thoughts, If increase in infected cases, or a 2nd wave occur, the above will be cancelled. Until then, wait and see.

I am not getting a Thai massage bet it happy ending or foot until there is a more standardized means of care such as a proven medicinal treatment or better yet a vaccine. I will be curious how many rush back to the traditional Thai massage place if they open anytime soon.

May 1st is another big Chinese holiday.  You will find out in a couple weeks.

The special immigration lines are probably being prettied up by the junta, and TAT will do an advertising blitz: "Come back! Its safe! Have some fun".   A big cardboard cut out of cha cha with arms extended, but wearing mask, will greet them.

Yes. They'll eat their way through anything: Body parts including hearts, wallets, houses, bank accounts.
