I'm thinking of upgrading to 64 bit Vista, but I'm wondering if this means I can still run most of my 32 bit software on it - or will it break a lot of things. What about hardware compatibility? Just wondering if there are good reasons *not* to install the 64 bit version?

Anyone got experience with this? Thanks.

The 64 Bit version need more memory for the system. Installed just the OS the 64 need 140 MB more meory for to run as the 32 Bit. Tested on the same computer just install and run the memorytest, delete, install thew other os and run again!

My famous FSX runs on 64 bit with 10 frames less than with 32 bit and. and. and .....

I delete the 64 Bit and use the 32 Bit only. Bought the 64 Bit License in the moment for "nothing"!

I'm running Vista 64 bit ultimate, and have encountered the following problems:

No driver for my 3com wireless USB adapter (but my PC has wired network as well, so no big deal)

Cisco vpn client doesn't work, this IS a big deal, I'm running vmware 6 with XP to run cisco vpn client inside vista.

The rest of the applications I have tested are running fine. Even GTA San Andreas runs fine.

But I still use XP on dual boot with Vista, mainly because of the cisco client problem. Sure hope cisco will release one soon. If they do so, I can get rid of XP.

You could always install it on a partition and test it out. If it works you can copy the data from the 32bit Vista and delete the 32bit partition, and if it doesn't you can zap the 64bit partition.

Just some feedback on this - I did install Vista 64 and everything is running well. The only software that didn't work was The Gimp, which wanted to rename some dll for its own benefit (ermm...no thanks).

Also just for the record: In the 32 bit version of Vista my Media Centre was buggy, but in 64 bit version it works flawlessly.
