What documents are needed to leave BKK by air?

Featured Replies

I have to urgently return to Europe and managed to purchase a one way ticket to Frankfurt from BKK on Monday. Does anyone know if I need any documents other than my air ticket, TM 6 and passport ? Thanks in advance.

You have what is needed as far as the Thai authorities are concerned.

You will also have to comply with the following conditions set by Germany or you will not be allowed to board the aircraft. Obviously if you are a German national or resident you will be ok:

GERMANY – published 11.04.2020
1.Passengers are not allowed to enter Germany.
-This does not apply to:
- nationals of Germany;
- passengers with permanent residence in Germany obtained before Coronavirus (COVID-19) or with a D-Visa issued by Germany;
- passengers with evidence that their travel is to perform a professional activity, e.g., commuters, diplomats, nursing staff, food industry personnel, specialists;
- passengers in transit to their home country, if there is no other travel option. The purpose of travel and the entry requirements for the destination and transit countries must be proved.
2. Passengers allowed to enter Germany must self-isolate and must proceed directly to their own home, or other suitable accommodation for a period of 14 days.

@blackcab what's with the "fit to fly" certificate (medical?) That I have been reading about. Is that an airline requirement? Or nothing

It is a requirement of Thai authorities for Thai citizens returning to Thailand by air travel.

I left Thailand 2 weeks ago via Frankfurt. It is advisable to get a health certificate from a doctor. There is a clinic in sukhomvit that will do it for 900 baht after you undergo a few health checks and questions. Also if you are transiting via frankfurt you will be isolated in another part of the terminal (non schengen). There are only two kiosks open selling basics. Some sandwiches and drinks etc. So be prepared. I was there for 18 hours and it was a complete nightmare.

Hmmm, I went to a Hospital here in Thailand last Friday. They asked me about 3 times. "Do you want a Medical Certificate"? Wasen't sure what they were talking about. So, now i do..it was in with the other papers when I got back to condo. Thanks.

I remember having to get a "medical" permission before i could buy my 1st motorbike.  I went to a Pharmacy that did the medical evaluation..it went like this: "How do you feel"? I'm ok. 100 baht please. That was it..

As I was getting fit to fly document for someone in the past (not about COVID): if you have a sickness, or looks like you're going to die on the plane (at least that's what it was before), then you would be required to provide a medical certificate that you are fit to fly. My form was from Austrian, and it was a 2 page form to be filled out by a recognised medical provider (basically a hospital, not sure a clinic would fly), which states details of patient's condition and states that patient does not suffer from any disease that would be a danger to other passengers in the air, nor has any condition that could cause patient's demise at 30k ft. It is stamped and signed by hospital and doctor and presented during the check-in. At that time it took 2 days to complete (as there were actually quite extensive tests done), and the cost of certificate itself was 2500 baht + the cost of normal OPD (doctor, nurses, lab,...). I may have a copy of that form somewhere. But that form was for flying OUT OF Thailand. Obviously now, in COVID times, the form probably has had some fields added and may look different, so not sure it makes sense trying to even look for it...

For the clinic to fly it would have to undergo certificate for airworthiness the same as any other flying craft that carries passengers.
