Can anyone suggest a really great ENT doctor in the general Isarn area?  I live in Udon Thani, but willing to travel.  I have had a persistent sore throat since January and over the last month also a slight earache.  I also had the same issue last year for a few months - it went away over December for some reason but came back again, so really its been a 6 or 7 month sore throat with a one month gap.

I have been to two doctors here in Udon and both of them put it down to pharyngitis, or an alergy of some kind.  I have been on a couple of different antibiotics and also penacilyn but nothing helped.  Both doctors (one in Jan, one in March) used a laryngoscope and pulled up a live feed of my voice box/larynx on the monitor and said they couldnt see anything serious apart from inflamation.  Having the earache more recently is begining to worry me though and I just read an article that suggests cancer of the larynx is very often misdiagnosed by ENT doctors when patients present with long term sore throat and earache.  Thats got me freaking out a bit to be honest.

I think its time to go an find a better doctor who will look at this a bit more seriously?

It is reassuring that they looked with a laryngoscope and that should have shown it if there was a tumor, even a small one, and pre-cancerous  changes to the mucosa should also have been visible.

The most common explanation for something like this when nothing is found on laryngoscopy is chronic irritation from either (1) post nasal drip (often due to pollution or allergy) or (2) gastric reflux

The best ENT specialists in Issan will be at the Khon Kaen Univ Hospital (Srinagarind). Use the after hours clinic

By all means get a hospital's doctors to check your problem and give you advice...

AEK...BANGKOK...and others right there in Udon Thani...

Check the AQI index for Udon...smoke, pollen, dust, vehicle's exhaust all contribute to a rough time if you have allergies...

Have you tried wearing a face mask everytime you leave home?

Don't panic...keep seeking help until you find it!

Good Luck!

P.S. It occurs to me you might also want to get a gastroscopy just to be sure there is not a problem in the esophagus (which might feel like a sore throat).  It is unlikely there is anything in the larynx since you have had 2 laryngoscopies with normal findings but cannot rule out something in the esophagus.

Gastroscopy  will also be able to determine if you have reflux.

Need a GI doctor for this.
