Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong

Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong and University, Science, Research and Innovations Minister Suwit Mesinee met recently to discuss plans to revive the country’s economy once the Covid-19 outbreak comes to an end.

Sontirat has also invited scholars and economists to join him in launching an online forum this month to brainstorm on reviving the economy. He said he has taken on this job in his capacity as secretary of Palang Pracharat Party, while Suwit will lead the project.

The online forum will focus on key issues, such as what the economy will look like, what society will be and what state technology disruptions will be in after the outbreak.

The forum will also focus on what steps should be taken to prevent such outbreaks in the future. For instance, hotels may have to launch a Covid-free zone, which will involve the sanitising of rooms to ensure guests are confident of their safety.

Airlines will also have to think of a new Covid-free standard of practices.

He said these new standards will have to be put in place immediately because there is still no vaccine to fight the virus.

Sontirat added that the business sector will also have to start hunting for new opportunities in the post-Covid-19 era.

Good luck.

Reverse the current closures ASAP and bring in more sensible restrictions this time i.e. don't close parks and beaches because they see a few people exercising. Look at each business type on a case by case basis and use common sense. Closing golf courses was just stupid

Obviously this will be discarded, as I am thinking logically and not like a Thai.

all that has to be done is to lift the health papers requirement, to waive

the 14 days quarantine, and of course do not forget to open the airport.

once all those three are done you will be surprised to see how many tourists

will come back and how fast, as most people understand that this

corona panick is a total non sense.

but until this will happan, forget about tourists, no one in his sane

mind will fly 14 hours and stay 14 days in forced quarantine just to have

a three weeks foot massage holiday.

it is my belief that this virus simply hate the tropical climate. and

if thailand would not declare the state of emergency than nothing would

happan. there would be some infections of course, but no more than current numbers.

now the damage was done.

a very very bad situation for thailand. especially the tourism industry.

unfortunately huge investments in hotels and resort will do down the drain.

whole cities like pattaya and phuket might go bankrupt.

shame. what a waste.

Did you cut and paste that from the same post in another thread?

There are still 3 golf courses open in Thailand, now how is that possible?

Ownership perhaps?

No amount of thinking is going to change the economic slump around the corner . Just have to borrow even more money from the Chinese masters and run up more debt. What could be simpler.

This requires just one thing Thailand has in abundance:

Generals

They say that to have a rainstorm you need rain, thus it follows that to have a brainstorm you need a brain.

Both items being currently in short supply at the present time.

time is on their side as this isn't ending next month - 12 month might be optimistic

Perhaps a more urgent need would be figuring out how to support 25m people with no income or means to live

Well, after many years of "brain storming", the LOS road carnage is still the same, so in this instance, I cannot see the outcome being any different....????

Right so Thanathorn and Thaksin are coming back?  They were the brightest minds or dinosaur Generals?  Hmm difficult choice

Im sure the chinese will give them some good ideas to use.????

Just ask Bill Gates. He is running the global show now !!!

All Governments do as he says ... world wide !!!

As "owner" of the WHO he even invented this SCAMdemic !!!

Stop relying on tourism, educate people to conduct global business online. This will take a long time if the standard of education is deliberately kept abysmal to ensure rich families make all the money.

Cannot wait to see what ideas they come up with,

They need someone that can think outside the box (Thailand)

I suspect idea No.1 will how to get the Chinese tourists back

quickly, free visa and all you can eat shrimp buffets.

regards worgeordie

I'm waiting for them to say how wonderful the expats are and how they appreciate us, spending money and all that. Could be sometime to hear

Certainly highlights the fact that you can't count on Generals.

You will need a committee a sub committee and a collection of pol- maj, lt- gen, maj- gen col- gen, cpt-gen lt- mag-gen and uncle tom cobley and all just to find a brain to storm????

This one will end up in the too hard basket, after all we know they don't enjoy to 'think to mut'
