Now that the airport is ready to be operational on May 1st - does anybody know whether Thai Airways will be flying to Perth, Australia or any other Australian airports?

I think I read not till 1 July, but anything can change, that said, you might want to look at an alternative air carrier if you need to get back asap.

The more burning issue would be whether those of us who reside in Thailand and travel to Oz will be able to leave oz back to Thailand giving the facts the Australian government have no plans to allow overseas travel any time soon...

May 1 is a small scale opening of domestic flights.

General lock on inbound international passenger/scheduled flights has just been extended to May 15.

I only here and there see headlines about repatriation/evacuation flights to Australia or New Zealand. But I am not up-to-date on that.

And as in previous post: whenever you leave Thailand be aware that it might take long until you can get back (while your visa or re-entry permit expires e.g.).
