The egg shortage situation appears to be easing after a price plunge at a retail store in Bangkok.

A rack of 30 eggs was found discounted from Bt89 to Bt49 at Makro’s Srinakarin store.

Thai Egg Merchant Trade Association president Suthasin Amruek said he was not surprised to see this low price, when various products have now become overabundant in the market.

He wanted the Commerce Minister to permit the export of eggs again after these exports were previously prohibited so production could meet domestic demand during Covid-19 panic buying.

Got a tray of 30 Mixed today for 66 Baht, most are size 1.  There is no shortage around Chiang Mai and never has been !

No shortages around rural Khampaeng Phet either and never has been.

The short lived shortage of eggs was due to panick buying. If I'm not wrong chickens give more eggs in Summer. Now we see an oversupply of eggs, judging from a sudden plunge in price.

Last week they were looking for export markets due to a glut. Egg price at the farm was 2.67 baht per egg. Sale price was less than that, hence looking for another market. I find a lot of the 'news' about eggs a little contradictory sometimes.
