Safety guarantee added to lure tourists back to ‘Amazing Thailand

The government is launching a new tourism measure to boost confidence for domestic and international travellers after the Covid-19 crisis. The “Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration” campaign aims to lift standards in the industry by certifying the safety of tourism businesses.

The campaign and certification were discussed last week in a meeting between the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), ministries of Public Health and Tourism and Sports, government agencies, and the private sector, revealed Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT deputy governor for tourism products and business.

Also, three public health departments have drafted criteria for organisers of tourism and sports activities, as well as events and meeting, she added.

“We have informed operators that to receive the logo, their businesses must meet or exceed the Public Health Ministry’s standard,” she explained.

The campaign would be open for registration soon, she added.

The TAT forecasts a drop of more than 60 percent in tourist numbers this year compared to 2019, with 16 million foreign visitors and 60 million domestic trips.

It estimates this year’s tourism revenue will total Bt1.12 trillion – Bt740 billion from foreign visitors and Bt380 billion from the domestic market. This is Bt1.89 trillion less than the Bt3.01 trillion earned by the tourist industry in 2019.

Tourists are how the virus spreads. Good luck with that.

The normally optimistic TAT man is inconsolable.

Idiots. When they remove the COVID-19 "certificate" requirement, plus 100K USD insurance requirement, they may get some tourists back.

They don't seem to realise airlines worldwide have drastically curtailed services, because they have no passengers.

Optimism to the extreme.

The world travellers are much better informed now.

Tourists denied entry at airports. Tourists interrogated at airport. Tourist put in airport jail. Dual pricing and much more. All this make international news, travellers are aware and more and more tourists choose alternative destination, where they feel welcome.

Other countries IO welcome tourists to their country, and tourist can often extend without problem. This Thailand should learn from. Put a end to 'You come to often to Thailand', and all other nonsense regulation they created last 10 years.

Immigration need a total overhaul.

Thailand has not been amazing for a long time.

Once the convid is under control, the vast majority of people will take 2 years just to make up for lost income.  On top of that people will be tackling their debt.

Ludicrous to think people en masse will be returning to Thailand, or any other country quickly.

How about treating the dirty Farang with more respect, get rid of dual pricing and actively abolishing scams.  That would be a small start.  And find a way of reducing the girls overcharging for opening their legs, with mostly rubbish service.

There will be the 3 kind of logos: Platinum sponsors, Gold Sponsors and Silver sponsors. The 1st tier start with a 8 digit donation.

To reach the next level, please add 1 digit.

Anutin will publicize the 1st group of sponsors in an unforgettable show

Perhaps they could stop harassing foreigners in the banks. I heard a few sad stories lately.

How exactly do they intend to guarantee safety for tourists, when they have been utterly incapable of it in the past?

They don't.  Its only a lure, not something real.

Totally agree with that  but I'm afraid all they will do is go back to doing exactly what was done before

but  with even more Chinese.

I totally agree. But I suspect that this "Public Health Ministry's Standard" applies in the named context to the local operators in Thailand and not any airlines. I would be speechless if they do not understand that the two requirements you list are not boosting tourism but rather prevent it.

I'm sure they will come up with <deleted>.

No worries; 'Logo's' will be printed by Forgers by the thousand if not millions in no time and anyway, to get a 'real' one it will only take a Brown Envelope !

14 day hotel stay all inclusive, in your very private room? 20 min/day alone in the super chloride pool?

I agree , families won't be coming any time soon , not this year , even if they can come . Single man are the ones who are less afraid to go further from home , so they will be the 1st people returning . I expect real long haul tourism , like before not to return until vaccin or medication are found and this thing is out of the air for at least 6 months . This means , i think at least 2 years from now , and that is a absolute minimum .

I reckon this is purely directed toward China.

They came back after a freakin' tsunami which was terrifying. They'll be back. Maybe not this year. But Thailand is still one of the top drawer attractions in the tourist world, not everyone is aware of the drawbacks like residents are.

There'll many cheap offers to be had soon to lure tourists back when the airports reopen.

Well put .. Last week there was a thread about some of the conditions that may be imposed on foreigner's like a 14 day quarantine on arrival and Covid insurance .. People ain't gonna fly half way around the world to endure that as when they do start flying in numbers again ..

Thai people are racists, they dont like farang. Only like our money. Would be fun to see how they managed without all the tourists these days. Millions without jobs already cause no turists comes due to the virus
