  • And she still couldn't save a little to overcome a 1 - 2 month lockdown?

  • I suspect it was more like 4,000-5,000 per day, my wife struggles with 1,000's and 10,000's mixes them up all the time.

  • 50,000 a day = 1.5 million per month. I assume that is turnover, so say she made a profit of 750,000 a month.  Surely she saved some money.   I think that often the figures are exaggera

The golden times have been over for a long time. Compared to 10 years ago, Pattaya is, and has, nothing.

Bring the Baht down 20% vs western currencies.  You’ll see businesses large and small come roaring back.

When?

How will they get to Thailand?

When will the planes start flying?  Will airlines price gouge?

When will the boarders be opened up in their home country?

Will tourists have to do 2 weeks quarantine in their home country after their holiday?

More variables come in to play than just currency exchange.

Oh really! I thought Pattaya was in lock-down. If this is true, then the possibility of spreading the virus out into the "sticks"!

Wonderful opportunity for Pattaya's ruling junta to fulfil their vision of turning Sin City into a family resort. Once, that is, they've found a way to stop the beach from eroding into a sea with all the watersports appeal of an open sewer.

I have no doubt "some" will either, just as I have no doubt the social divide will grow even more in Thailand this year when the rich get richer by snapping up the choice lots, but the Chinese are not going to buy all as the OP stated!

You have lost me there, why on earth would that happen? The world is decimated, (by design IMO) we haven't ever started seeing the outcome of stopping peoples livelihoods and removing there freedom yet by the biggest Psych operation the world has ever, seen all currencies are screwed, the Petro dollar is finished, yet Thai business will thrive, why?

When economies return to normal—and it will take a while—western countries will look to diversify their imports so they won’t be so dependent on China.  It will take time.  If Thailand has an uncompetitive currency and a military-based government—they will lose to lower cost, stable exporting countries.

And do you really think China wants to import more from Thailand, than they export?  You’ve seen what they’ve done to the Mekong.  And the South China Sea. This is not a benevolent neighbor.

Not a bad little profit 1,300,000 a month less operating expenses.

say 1 million a month profit after expenses. 12 million a year x 4 years + 48 million baht. She should have enough to see her out.

save for a rainy day comes to mind.....but they not do in Thailand DO THEY???

I have seen lots of landlords still want the same rent

Of course they do, it's in the contract, don't pay and you're out.

I understand what you are getting at - But! dependant on China? none of the traditional "western" industries were forced to move to China, China was chosen by the "Globalists" to be the world's factory - ever wondered why?

Depending on the outcome of the current ongoing agenda? do you see the same globalists no longer wielding the same power, or will countries regain power over there own fate?

A certain Mr Trump who the MSM detest was the only western leader that was trying to get away from China, the rest were quite content, not one other "President" made any attempt to diminish the power of the "Chinese, to such an extent, that with a good imagination you could think it was in their favour to keep quite!

its complex, if it was a free and competitive world the few percent on ex rate may had made a difference at one time, those days may well just be memories????

Maybe locals will understand how foreigners living here are precious ❤️

Maybe a good lesson for all the idiots only relying on tourists and especially chinese or russian.

Pattaya was sinking in its cesspool well before the WuFlu. Well before.

Do you honestly think Thailand's tourist industry will resume at the end of the Thai lockdown period?the rest of the world  remains in lockdown, airlines not flying, and the West in recession be a while.

after government and police respectively has taken their unfair share,

who knows what her profit was, also she named the top earning months,

this fluctuates wildly.

there is no turn in sight, she made a good decision and

had it set up so she could quit by her own account

I don't have a crystal ball, but I know that several countries are easing restrictions already.

Most of the restrictions issued were also actually a panic reaction, and can be removed as quickly as they were put in place.

The crisis is still young, and much has still to be uncovered.

If the airlines will fly again soon is to be seen but in the west, especially in Europe,  people have savings and get currently get compensated for sitting at home, so if the planes fly they will come.

No, the Chinese will not do to Pattaya like they did to Sihanoukville, but for sure the Chinese will buy some establishments.  Perhaps, some well known establishments.

Sounds good to me. Put a respectable business in there and build the city back up to something it never was.

I think you will find international travel is not one of the restrictions that can be / will be lifted soon, and if it was, there may be a 2 week forced quarantine upon returning.

Would you want to be detained for 2 weeks, just for having a 2 week holiday in Thailand?

your calculation is incorrect.
First of all the rent, which is likely to be 200.000 baht a month
The bar ladies do get 30-50% of the turnover in drinks, so lets say 400.000 bath.
Pay the police another 100.000 thb at least
The purchase of the liquor itself 25% , so about 300000 thb.
My guess is she takes home between 200k and 300K a month.
She will have to pay off her new car, her house, her life insurance and so on. 80 K
Ok, so left 150K a month

how long is this gonna take. the only way to save money is to stop now and indeed perhaps restart in a few years, after the market has recovered.
