Tourism has suffered enormously in Thailand from Covid-19.   In your opinion which of the following best expresses your opinion on when tourism in Thailand will return to it's pre-Covid levels?

Tourism has had it's heyday...not going to be the numbers or the fun with social distancing and facemasks...

Read somewhere that over 70% of people are now afraid to fly or stay in hotels.  It will take significant time to make them feel safe again.

3 points..

1. The undiserable element will 'rush' back .. quality tourist possible Christmas break

2. Gov will have to impose restrictions on countries where the virus remains significant ..at point of departure

3. Do thais want tourist back before 2021?

Up, if history is anything to go by.

Tourists from Europe, Australia and USA, maybe will not flock as soon as i guess,  i do believe that some if not many, had suffer from the economic crisis following the actual unsolved situation or maybe just simply prefer to travel in their own counties.

Maybe if the proposes will be very attractive, maybe we will see a return during the X'Mas period.

About the Asian tourists, probably there will be a more fast gradual return.

I'm Italian so i'm a bit influenced by the situation in Italy, i listen from my contacts there, i hope to be completely wrong in my thought.

  • Popular Post

I would guess, back to some normality around autumn 2021. A lot depends on whether there are second/third waves of the virus. Also depends on when paperwork required to travel is relaxed.

In all seriousness, there's a lot of talk in the media about buffet restaurants being banned. Sound logical to me but will Thailand be strict enough to close its buffets, including moo gatas, indefinitely?

plus all it will take is a few stories about a flair up of the virus here and there or a few nightmare interviews with people put into quarantine for their whole vacation when they thought it would not be necessary and people will not travel.

i do think the communist Chinese are going to be buying up bargain real estate in Thailand.

They will do it sight unseen from the internet.

There is a lot of factors.

The economical, what will happends with the flight tickets prices, will they double up if the flights had to make social distance ? If that happends, the tourists from the west will find new local holyday solutions I think. Maybe the chinese can arrange some cheap flights with social distance, or the thai tourist authorities will allow the chinese to flight without social distance ?

Beside the covid crisis we have a growing international finansial crisis, many people loose/will loose their jobs, they will not have money for long distance travelings.

The medical, when do we have a reliable medication against covid and what about if a new panepidemic......., now we seen sars and covid in a few years.

Do we need to make health passports in the future, that we are free of cowid etc ?

The people, what is happening with the travel dreams, at the typical tourists, are they afraid for the future, will they take their vacation locally, so they easy and fast can reach their homes and known hospitals, if something should happends ?

The most important thing is to get a reliable antivirus medication, then many things can go back to "normal", but things can not go back to normal before that.

Yes, and also the 1.38bn that aren't members of the CPC, who are allowed to buy what they want.

People have some strange ideas about China.

I cannot truly give one of those answers.

The one that is missing:  Tourism in Thailand was in decline pre-Covid and will continue to decline even after it 'restarts'.

Let's sit on a plane fully masked up for 12 hours worrying about fatty 3 seats away coughing every few minutes. Check in a hotel with regulations coming out their bottoms just so I can have a beer while wearing a mask chatting to a girl that has to stay at least two metres away.....hhhmmm. oh and flights possibly costing double what they where a year ago...be a long time coming for Thailand

  • Popular Post

Tourism won't be there for next high season in November, possibly the following of 2021.

No single male tourist will be coming here until the bars, karaokes and soapy massages are allowed to re-open.

  • Popular Post

The Chinese will be the first ones back and will probably be the majority of tourists for the near future, though not in the numbers that they used to be.

European and American tourists will take two or three of years to come back in significant numbers.

The question is not "when is Thailand going to allow tourists into the country", it's "when are other countries going to allow their citizens out for holidays and then back in"?

Tourism is simply one thing right now:  Done.

Even China won't let people out of their country to inter-mingle with every tom dick and harry and welcome them back home.  They are not going to risk another outbreak and have their entire economy shut down.  They are NOT coming to Thailand, so don't worry.

The following must occur for tourism to come back:  A vaccine, or probably sooner a suitable treatment for the disease.  When this will occur cannot be determined right now.  Vaccine in 18 months?  12 months?  Remember too, it must be widely available.

Personally I'm waiting to go back to Thailand until things are back to a somewhat normal stage.

So maybe not before a vaccine is ready.

Also.

No quarantine, no masks, no fever checks etc.

Not going to spend my hard earned money in a place where I can't relax.

So probably not before 2021 but hopefully in February where we planned next trip, but time will tell.

It's only 6 weeks since I left Thailand and I allready miss it so much.

God damn Corona.....

Really 2 years,2022 with many restrictions.

That could be tricky in practice because just about every group Thai meal is a buffet!; in that (eg.) you order 10 dishes between 8 of you and all dig in.

We’ll  never know the true stats if TAT are involved. Our eyes and ears will tell us what’s actually going on.

"Tourism will not rebound until the pandemic is over and there is a vaccine"

42% voted for the above... What they fail to see is that we are going into a global depression. People will not have money to travel.. even after the corona vaccine is available the economy will take years to get back to "normal".

we were in a bubble economy before the corona virus hit. Corona is just the pin that pricked the bubble. We had near zero interest rates since 2008/2009. Record levels of debt. And now with corona it's even worse.

i hope im wrong and that we can money print our way out of this. But I don't think so. But I'm not an economist.. and even if I was.. would I know?

Don't blame the virus. The virus just does what it does. It doesn't have a mind. Blame the Chinese communist party for lying about it and doing their best to spread it across the world.

The US, Italy, France, UK, China, Indonesia,  to name a few countries where I do not want to see them for at least 8 months anyway

I think July this year they will allow tourists to enter but under strict rules, like temperature checks, mask wearing, 2 week quarantine. They have to do it because of the economy and Thais need work/money.

I have 6 week holiday in July, so I could do the 2 week quarantine, and still get 4 weeks to have fun, it's better than nothing I guess.

I'm currently still getting a full salary while not working, so money wise I'm ok, I have no car, wife, kids etc there are some guys out there like me that still can afford to travel in Thailand, and I don't need the bars, massage shops and soapys to enjoy myself, give me a bowl of mangosteen, sunshine, Thai friendly account and I'm happy

a few pts, tourism is essential to the thai economy, theres thousands and thousands of guest houses, hotels etc that employ millions and the massage shops, nail salons, restaurants, beach vendors, car hire, taxis etcetc it goes on forever.this needs to start again.it must.its a given.precautions need to be in place so USA and EU/UK visitors will have to clear their areas problems first, asia is well ahead so asians will arrive first.makes sense, visa holders must have some priority, people with families etc who have been seperated.if theyre in EU/USA they may need to have a covid free paper, the 100 grand ins is absurd no one will come and it will be wiped shortly, maybe replaced with a 20 $ payment at the airport.i feel that long distance tourists will be fewer as the hassle will be thought too much.moneys thinner than it was.flight prices well the will try and gouge but....supply and demand will wi thru.from what im hearing its just the middle seat left free and masks and temp checks.this will start in june i feel.people must travel for work business and to see their loved ones ,tourism comes after that.

And that's why tourist won't be coming back any time soon.

Tourist will not come if these types of restrictions are in place.
