Since many provinces are at risk of flooding due to heavy rains, all reservoirs must be made ready to store as much water as possible, the Office of Natural Water Resources (ONWR) said.

“The Thai Meteorological Department expects a lot of rain from mid-May to October,” Dr Somkiat Prajamwong, ONWR secretary-general, said. “Hence, we also need to discuss with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the authorities of nearby provinces such as Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani about clearing their drainage systems.”

Provinces that may be flooded from May onwards are:

May: Chanthaburi, Trat, Phang Nga and Surat Thani.

June: Nakhon Phanom, Rayong, Phetchaburi, Ranong, Phang Nga, Chumphon and Surat Thani.

July: Nakhon Phanom, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Ranong, Chumphon, Phang Nga, Krabi, Phuket and Surat Thani.

August: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Rayong , Chanthaburi, Ranong, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Krabi and Phuket.

September: Saraburi, Pathum Thani, Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, Rayong, Ranong, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun

October: Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

“Mekong River is expected to rise in July and two storms are expected to enter Thailand from August to October,” he added.

Areas in Bangkok that may be flooded this year are:

1. Chaeng Wattana Road from Khlong Prapa to Khlong Prem Prachakorn

2. Ratchadaphisek Road near Bangkok Bank

3. Phaholyothin Road near Amornphan Market and Kaset intersection

4. Pracharat 2 Road at Tao Poon intersection

5. Ratchawithi Road around Suan Dusit Rajabhat University and Krung Thon Bridge

6. Phayathai Road near Department of Livestock Development

7. Si Ayutthaya Road near Phayathai Police Station

8. Chan Road from Soi Bamphen Kusol to Yannawa Post Office

9. Suanplu Road from South Sathorn Road to Nang Linchi Road

10. Sathupradit Road at Chan Road intersection

11. Suwinthawong Road from Khlong Sam Wa to Khlong Saen Saeb

12. Phetkasem Road from Khlong Thawi Watthana to Khlong Ratchamontri

13. Muban Setthakit Road

14. Bang Khun Thian Road from Rama 2 Road to Bang Khun Thian-Chai Thalae Road

There is no accurate weather forecasting for even the next day here in Thailand, so the above isn’t worth much more than telling the people that there will be rain during the rainy season.........

If they really know this for sure.... Then how come they have not cleared all the sewers in these areas, that are filled with sand, dust and rubbish???...???...

LOLOLOL.

This is the job I want.

HEADLINE:  MASSIVE STORMS COMING

In the year 2073, there will be storms in Bangkok during the month of June.

In 2097, there will be flooding in Chiang Mai during the month of May.

I have three weather apps on my phone, they are all "right," but practically wrong.  80% of rain, nope.  90% of rain, nope.  1 percent chance of rain, yup.

I feel the same as you do.

Either somebodies crystal ball is way out of calibration, or they have been drinking too much loopy juice.

As for

quote “The Thai Meteorological Department expects a lot of rain from mid-May to October,” Dr Somkiat Prajamwong, ONWR secretary-general, said. “Hence, we also need to discuss with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the authorities of nearby provinces such as Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani about clearing their drainage systems.”

What have they been doing for the last 4 or 5 months? They could have been clearing the klongs and canals and dredging for the first 4 months of the year.

I check the weather reports for Khampaeng Phet province daily for the weather and for the last 2 weeks predictions it said that there was a 10/20/30 % chance of rain and thunderstorms. Last night we had the thunder and lightning a about 5 minutes of rain which just dampened the soil. That was in rural Khampaeng Phet.

Since December 1st last year until yesterday Khampaeng Phet weather centre has had 58.8 mm of rain, 45.5 mm fell on one day, 27th April.

Flooding! some bloody rain would be pleasant we have had two decent rains since September, bout 5 weeks since the last downfall, moderate though it was, been 40°c+ for weeks now and looks to continue that way ????

Weather forecasting is all about putting data into a computer nowadays, the more data you put in the more accurate the forecast will be!

I think TMD has resorted to their backup machine!

Mekong River is expected to rise in July

Hot tip from the Nothern Masters, that's when they'll open the dams?

Whom who may not be named will order some cloud seeding.

The water situation up here is desperate. But what's the use of moaning? Soon the planes with the chemicals will go up, and spray onto the clouds, and there will be rain a plenty. Saw it on the television last night. Or, we could all pray at the same time for rain. Needs a bit of co-ordination that, but well withing the Thai authorities' capabilities.

I predict rain sooner rather than later. Or later rather than sooner. Let's all have a beer.

He’s predicting floods based on the sewers that are most full of rubbish. ????

Seriously? The weatherman can't get today's forecast right and they're predicting what's going to happen in October? That's laughable!

Shame they haven't worked out a way to hold on to it !

Sometimes you see a glimmer of light in Thailand, and then along comes some blithering idiot calling himself a 5* general or a Director-General or a Surgeon-General or a Secretary-General, entirely unselfaware, and the light goes out again and all is dark.

Here's another certain long-range forecast, lol:

Air quality in Chiang Mai will be poor and getting worse.

If you don't solve the problem it's easy to predict...

we are going to get wet in some regions from the new cyclone in the bay of bengal though models are showing it staying away from the coast Thailand will pick up some precip from this monster..

If it rains, probably be floods. No rain probably droughts.

By not doing anything different, probably get the same results over and over again.

How surprising!

“Hence, we also need to discuss with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the authorities of nearby provinces such as Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani about clearing their drainage systems.”

A bit late now - they have had six months as dry as a bone, and they tell us the rains will begin any day soon!

Meanwhile they can't even predict accurately for the upcoming two hours on any given day!

In Thailand hopes and dreams equate to press releases and news stories.

We had a massive storm here near Bandung on Sunday night. Filled up most of our 3 ponds. Washed away some recent landfill though.
