Electricity Bill Cost Reducton

I've apparently missed some news from the PEA. My electricity bill appears to have been reduced by 10% (of the number of units used) and then another 3% on the total cost of the bill.

I found a link to the 3% reduction of the final bill (https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30385785) but can't find any news about the 10% reduction in units used.

Anyone have a link to where it is officially reported?

We received a 2350 baht discount on this months electricity bill.

We had no idea of this discount (Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority).

I've no idea if this was announced. The discount was a surprise to my Wife.

Your bill must be huge! My units were 1150, but they knocked off 115 so I paid for 1035 - that's about 435 baht reduction.  Then the 3% reduction on the overall bill - thanks to the MEA - was another 137 baht.

But I'm curious about the 10% reduction on the number of units.

Still wiring on mine. My meter was read this past Friday but nothing dropped in my box like normal. Went online with MEA account and it says nothing due....last months bill was over 6500 baht. I use an average of 1500 in March and April because everyone is home..

I've seen my neighbours bill and payment receipt at Chiang Rai, it was 2,924B and he paid 2017B.

They said something about the discount applying if you don't pay it until 15 days after issue.

Funny - I am new in this neighborhood and they refused to let me pay my bill in April, told me to come back next month and I think the discount was abt 25% ... but that explains why no payment in April...

I will wait until after 10 am this morning, since it is Monday and recheck then, if it makes a difference to see if the bill has been entered into the MEA database...

I think that goes automatically, before I receive the physical bill I can already pay online.

And now, a few days later, it still says 'no outstanding balance'.

My bill for the month to 15th April came to 2,638baht/634units consumption. Due Date 7th May

Debited from my bank on the 12th May 1,354baht.

So , saved 1,284baht.

Latest meter reading taken on 16th May 1,354baht/581units consumption. Due Date 8th June.

charged same as February's bill 344units consumption , therefore the amount of discount received (581-344)=237units.

Overall discount for the 2 months in the region of 40-45% , which was nice.

A quick way to tell if you are going to get a significant discount is to have a look at your February bill. If you electric bills are consistent in consumption from February onward - you wont have a very large discount, but for example in my situation by luck my February bill was quite low, so my bills for March and April will a significant discount. March I got a 2,600 baht discount and im still waiting on Aprils bill.

The PEA bases your discount on February's consumption and amount of Units consumed.

Frugal households consuming under 150 units of electricity won’t have to pay anything. Those consuming over 150 units to 800 units will pay the same amount as their February bill

Bills for households consuming between 800 units and 3,000 units will be assessed at February’s rate, but will pay for any additional units consumed in March at a rate discounted by 50%.

Any household using more than 3,000 units will pay February’s bill with additional units charged at 70% the normal rate.

Those who have already paid their March bills, which most received last week, will be credited the difference.

The rate subsidy is estimated to cost THB23 billion for the three-month period, according to Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong.

to have a look at your February bill

True as that was the announcement but really what they meant was the usage in the month February.

You can assume that it is then from the period date to date of the netmetering, which is in my case on the 7th of each month.

Last week I got confirmation as the bill from last month arrived which included the calculations.

It has the same values as the bill that came in March, which is fair as that bill is for the usage in February. (7th to the 7th of March)

The bill that dropped on my doormat in February covers the usage from 7th of January to the 7th of February.

Curiouser and curiouser... a mate who lives up the road got his wife to pay at the PEA office and got a big discount. His bill was for 2710.82 Baht for 632 units. They didn't knock 10% off the number of units like they did me but, other than that, his bill shows the same calculations as mine.

My bill has a line showing the number of units with 10% off near the top, his doesn't.

But when his wife paid, she got another receipt showing a discount of 1480.34 Baht on a bill for 2710.82, so a payment of 1230.48 Baht.
