How exactly is this relevant to this story again?!

Just that if so many stories about people of this nationality do not describe empathy and compassion, it just makes it harder for people from other nationalities to feel some compassion towards this fellow....

Sad but true! Certainly ending a story with a sentence like that doesn’t help matters either! I expected more of journalist!
