Problem is what goes on behind the curtain. Social distancing? Who will buy a lady drink from 2 meters away? And they cater to the highest risk groups and just imagine the damage just one super spreader (pun intended) will do !

I love the go gos but sadly they are history IMO

Why would they be "history" in Thailand and not elsewhere?  Saigon is now fully open.  Is this going to be one those problems that are only in Thailand?  We will know in a month or two.

Pattaya can change and look for tourists with other interests than sex and booze. Perhaps now is the best time for this.

If any owners of Clubs, Discos and bars are just sitting and waiting for things to get back to normal, they will be surprised, that the normal they know, will not come back again. There is going to be a totally new normal, so right now it´s time to be innovative and create new kinds of activities for people, who want to be social, but not social with everyone on the premises.

Most bars are small and will have difficulties to survive, if they should try to move tables and seats, so people can keep a healthy distance to each others. Since most bars, clubs and discos in Pattaya have prostitution involved, the owners could focus more on this part of the business. F.x. they could provide private cabins / rooms, where prostitutes and customers could have their own private parties, with drinking, eating and boom boom. Now is definitely the time to think out of the box.

This was all falling apart before covid. Over Development too many bars ,markets, 711s ,Condos malls too much competition for an already dwindling market. The high Thai Baht is the real reason for tourist not coming here.

and think about her box

Bull-shirt... the girls are working online anyway, more will follow... and why is getting sheet-faced the idea of good time?  Better yet... Thailand could stop pretending and fully legalize casino gambling.  There you go!

I would not be surprised if some Walking Street gogo's are bought by the Chinese for cheap and turned into Chinese karaoke bars.  So, part of the night tour is a walk up and down Walking Street, and then drinking and singing, Chinese style, in a Chinese owned bar.

when that day comes issan will be empty by the bus load.happy days for some people after this virus ends

Endless bars here in Pattaya have been without (m)any customers even during the high season. I am always asking myself how they survive or if they are perhaps only used for money laundering.

I think this bar business is outdated and should be replaced by more appealing things. Could be the right time now to change this sex and booze image. Alone walking on the Beach Road in not Corona times is a sex hassle for "normal" tourists. But even yesterday when I had to walk to the post office - "I come with you", "boom boom" and other invitations for sex. An open air brothel open at daytime already and this even at Corona times.

Ever thought of living somewhere else that would suit you, Saudi Arabia perhaps, wonderful place, no bars, no alcohol, no girls, little entertainment................

Give us your thoughts of what should replace the bars etc.

"We"? Don't include me in your know all statement.

So just what do these do gooders and fundamental Christian experts here recommend Thailand and Pattaya do as an alternative ? Oh I know maybe Video arcades and Carnival rides...Majong parlors for the "wealthy upscale tourists" Maybe more malls or how about a nice Central Park with a zoo and paddle boats. Need a bar in Hua Hin anyone ?

Government is quick to critisize  bars and pubs but excuse me where was the first significant outbreak ? The bars and pubs support many staff and their families with jobs and provide social interaction and entertainment for Thais and foreigners alike. Are there too many bars ? If so who's fault is that ? If the government wants us out then re-zone the districts using a public review process or just cancel our licenses, refund the money and compensate us and our staff for our losses, everything has its price..We have all quickly realized that no business is immune from government ineptness and tyranny as there is no rhyme or reason in the shutdown ( slam dunk you're out ) or the restart ....uhhh not sure who can start, wait, wait oh uhhh nevermind .. must not lose face even though not have face.

This fact that younger generations lack an appreciation for live music is very disturbing to me.  I know 2 guys here from USA, one mid-40's and another early 30's who both "love" and "listen" to EDM, they had to tell me it stands for Electronic Dance Music.  Elwood Blues said it best:  ".... leaving the next generation with nothing but recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gangsta-rap, acid pop, and simpering, saccharine, soulless slush."

I have been listening/mixing house and techno for 30 years, I do like hearing some Thai singers though.

that is a leading feature of the current thai government

I do believe many bar and club owners are wishful thinkers. Not just here in Thailand but the world over there is a massive change in human rights taking place. The entertainment industry, travel, restaurants, the places and activities that people use for get out of the house are closing. Turning us into an unhappy society of Microsoft Netflix Grab users.

Pattaya in particular and Thailand as a country have wanted to upgrade the quality of both tourist and expat for sometime. It is no secret the government dislike the sexpat tourist that frequent bars all over the country. Their attitude is we don't care where you go, we don't want or need that revenue we have plans to redevelop the tourist industry to our liking. This was on their minds prior to this <deleted> show and now have the perfect opportunity to invest in a new type of tourist industry. The talk of opening up if things remain good with regards to virus will do very little in fact it will be a disaster. Tenants can plead for rent relief with not being allowwd to open, but being allowed to open with 0 hope of getting western customers is going to break the back of most. One only needs to look at how this plandemic has devastated Europe the UK and the USA. Air travel will have to increase to a level making long haul very expensive with this new rule of leaving a seat between customers. Most airlines are reducing their fleets by up to 50%

After all this is said and done there may be a small enclave around LK metro open for business with new ownership. I seriously doubt any the current tenants will survive the coming year to 18 months.

The times are a changing Vegas change their image to a family entertainment place TIT

But suggesting that businesses and staff could just do something else less risky was nonsense and unrealistic.

Clear and true words! There are not only the Pattaya gogos and beer bars, tourists in Chiang Mai, on the islands and Bangkok like to sit in a cocktail bar or a nice rooftop bar and enjoy a drink or going in a club for dancing.

so what?

There are already a lot of place all over Thailand for the ''normal'' tourists

why do you want to kill the only place where the ''lonely fat bald bad boys'' are welcome?

I take exception to this post. I’m not fat...so there!

Bars are not needed anywhere in the world.

Pattaya bars weren't doing that well even at Christmas.  After this covid19 pandemic I doubt if even 50% of them will be able to reopen.

Now is probably the time to actually restrict the areas that they can open in. There is no need for girly bars in every street or area.

You omitted the jet ski scams, crimes, traffic, dirty and polluted sea water and quite a few other negative aspects. But otherwise, your post is very true. Without the sex scene the city cannot survive. Bars without available bar girls are of little interest to anyone. Social distancing and sex is impossible. The bar girls with their multiple clients would be a breeding ground for the virus.

horrible where you lose your freedom and your rights.

indeed, horrible if i would lose my freedom and rights to live in a healthy society.

restricting individual behaviour that endangers other peoples lives and so infringes on their freedom, rightly should not be allowed.

Just like people dont have "the freedom to be drunk and drive a car" people also dont have the right to unnecesarely risk spreading a very contagious and possible legal disease.

Spot on PMK , The government will pander to the Chinese magnates and soon the wrecking ball will make way for those big bright new Hotel Casinos...Prime Beach front real estate..

"But businesses were in dire straights having to continue to pay high rents."

I'de guess that zero rents have been paid.....

Maybe you will like North Korea?

I know it sounds bad but all the time people are being so kind , from bars and clubs giving out free food to help the needy .. the government won’t give a dam ... they will think long may it continue..

if they stopped helping .. people , poor people , starving people ... might take to the streets in anger

they might think again ...

With the current frenzied addiction to the daily covid19 statistics, may I suggest that a daily figure is published alongside these for STD's, road deaths, alcoholic deaths and people falling off ladders. This would provide some perspective to the covid19 figures!

Its possible but wow it would need a complete overhaul.  First you have to run the Mafia out of town (which means also the local government and police).  They you would need to completely face-lift the whole central area, pave off the beach road and put nice bars and restaurants down it.   Then you need to start on your advertising campaign.  No endless cavalcades of Chinese tour buses and gormless flag waving Chinese tourists gawking at the freak parade on show.  Unless you are sticking a casino in town the Chinese will go elsewhere to do their gawking.  You would be asking to attract new tourists in a post covid economic and travel climate.  Its such a huge job I cant imagine it would be possible during the lockdown, even with a functional government.  Sounds very challenging!
