Thai Car & Bike Drivers Licence

Featured Replies

My licenses for my Thai Bike & Car expire today, both five year. I have tried through agents here in Pattaya to establish when the transport office will be opening for over two weeks now but the response is always the same. Not open and cannot renew. It's crazy. Why? Well insurance companies assure me if I continue to drive on an expired license in my car or on my bike, they will not cover me. Since thats contractual they have said they are unwilling to make any exceptions to this rule. So, folks, if your license is expiring and you cannot renew it remember, you will not be covered by your insurer should you be involved in an accident whilst operating the vehicle or bike. Think twice!

The head honcho came on the TV to tell folk not to worry about expired licences, to watch for updates, so, I cannot see how any insurance co can give you hassle IF a licence expires during the licence office closure.

But, I would phone my insurance company for clarification....

Well I did, and their position was .... "your insurance is invalid should you claim with an expired license". That's obvious and rather common sense. Good luck trying to convince any insurer with claim based on your contract with them to pay out without a lengthly and expensive court case. ANY person "head honcho" or not suggesting that you are covered for a claim by any insurance company, should not only give that assurance to you in writing, but guarantee those terms as such by them personally. Didn't happen, didn't think so.
