A Covid-19 test kit whose accuracy is being questioned by US health authorities has not been imported for sale in Thailand, according to the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

FDA secretary-general Dr Paisarn Dunkum confirmed the ID NOW Covid-19 test kit, manufactured by US firm Abbott, had not been shipped to Thailand.

The FDA chief was responding to news that the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) had issued a warning alert for the ID NOW Covid-19 test kit, which is used at the White House and at hospitals throughout America. There are at least 15 reports of inaccurate results from the test kit.

"We checked the medical device registration database and found no such product has been registered or imported into Thailand. It is only being sold in the United States,” said Dr Paisarn.

The FDA said it is monitoring all Covid-19 test kits in Thailand to ensure they are safe and accurate.

This reads like some of the Chinese propaganda I've been reading every day on Twitter, probably because that's exactly what it is.

I wonder if Abbott will view this as defamation under the laws of Thailand.

For sure... Thailand imports Chinese test kits which were rejected by EU because their accuracy was 30% and below that...

I saw a report on Sky News at the end of March showing a Thai 90 min response test. I assume that this fell into the not accurate category. Judging by the number of people tested in Thailand it looks lie it was quietly dropped.

Typical poor reporting and very likely a piece fed to a lazy Thai journalist by a Chinese "friend". 15 inaccurate results in how many tests? If several thousand, not a bad result as over 99% accuracy. BTW, rather than using already discredited Chinese test kits, how about dusting off the GT200 test devices that must still be sitting in army warehouses. These will probably produce a more accurate result.
