Tears and heartbreak as flight ban keeps farang-Thai families apart

Much doubt a couple of FB pages will do booger all to change/influence Thai gov's mind.  Best suck it up and integrate some innovative ways of connecting consistently online with your current sitch.  No-one, including g/fs/spouse et al, like continual conversations where the bulk of the convo is whining and complaining "its not fair blah blah".  They will seek more uplifting/fun alternatives locally.  Keep it light, chilled and concentrate on efforts to generate more $$ so when you ultimately do get back with your family you can splash out on a huge re-connection party.

For how long?    Thai's can return (when there are flights) but foreigners with families in Thailand can't. Why is that ok for you? Why would a Thai present any less risk than a foreign

Little chance of opening up until October, 14 day quarantine when returning to the UK from 8th June now.

Where does October come from?

Interesting, where did you get October from? - Thats another 5 months with no incoming flights? or just no incomming tourists? or no incoming Western tourists?

You could be right, but why October and not November, or September? what thought process?

I read in the BP this week about hotels gearing up for October. They are still repatriating Thais with 14 day quarantine, so why would they open up in July or August to foreigners, it defeats the object.

I guess it depends what the objectives of the lock down is in the eyes of the Thai Government.

I always understood lock down as a measure to prevent further exponential spread of Covid-19 such that healthcare services are so overwhelmed that those in high risk groups and those who suffer extreme symptoms may not have access to critical care facilities (Critical Care Units, Intensive Care Units, High Dependency Care Units).

The healthcare services have not been overwhelmed. While the extent, effects and impact of Covid-19 without the benefit of any other knowledge lock-down was the correct decision. However, we now know a lot more and the numbers, case fatality rates, all stats are significantly lower than modeled.

I wonder if this virus is any more severe than seasonal influenza. Given that between 300,000 and 650,000 people die each year from seasonal influenza, I would like to see updated models based on the latest case fatality rates.

If they loved their families so much why did they leave them in the first place?

To love is to leave, to leave is to love. Leaving is loving to leave while leaving the love.

Exactly, but the longstanding truth that I noticed within the first year of living here (and that has only really gotten worse, and that most people refuse to believe) is that Thailand is for Thai people. There is very little, if any, consideration for foreigners in any way. Its always been like this, it will always stay like this. When push comes to shove it will always be Thai first, and even if you marry one you will always be a second-class person.

Itll never change.

Yet we would not complain if our own countries acted the same right?

Then there would not be entire towns / cities following Sharia Law throughout the UK....

Not if they catch the sh*t when they walk out the front door of the quarantine facility, no.

And besides, its apparently good enough for Thai people, and the WHO, CDC etc...

Add a Covid test on the 14th day if that makes you feel more secure.

And what if the person is Asymptomatic ?

As a standalone action quarantining people alone does not eliminate the chances of further spreading.

Agreed...  though it impacts the spread over the 'near future' (as long as lock down lasts), once the world is opened up again, it will spread again. Vaccine and Immunity are the only way we (the world) can live with this.

The tears will only happen if the white guy stops sending money!

Which is why the world needs to remain in lockdown to allow more time for a vaccine to be found.

In other words, a logical and careful step by step action to relieve these situations, and compassion, are not in your DNA! Your sad.

A foreigner allowed entry that has the WuFlu goes onto infect 10 other people..... Yeah I have compassion for those innocently infected.

QUARANTINE !!!...

Why? how many people are dying compared to seasonal flu?

What if we can't find a vaccine? what if there is no vaccine until next year?

Can society not live with a certain element of risk?

[devils advocate] When all the figures are in, will this virus be any worse that 2009 H1N1 ????

I'd prefer they stay locked out than risk importing the wuFlu.

Would you prefer to be locked out?

Of course not.

I don't think the objective is to eradicate this coronavirus, just like the common cold and Seasonal Influenza, its with us now.

Immunity and a vaccine (if we can establish one) is how we will live with SARS-Cov-2.

The lockdown objectives were never about eradication, but about 'spreading out the impact' of the virus.

Allowing non Thai nationals to enter increases the risk of the WuFlu spreading, sucks to be them but it is what it is and I appreciate Thailand's (and the other countries with similar/same policies) hard stance on this.

And there is NO risk from Thai Nationals?

How about Thai Nationals coming from China?

lol @ Quarantine... I'll bet that can easily be negotiated !!

try reading the OP again

No one is saying let all foreigners enter Thailand, why are you not getting that and continuing with this stupid argument

Another point could be that Thailand doesn't want to let anyone in, but really can't prevent nationals from coming home (although there are plenty of examples where this happened).

How many foreign men and women are there that want to come home to their family's in Thailand?

1000? 5000? more????

At the moment there are very few repatriation flights anyway, so Thai's can't really get back either.

However, once flights open up I wonder what will happen.

Will it be Thai's only? etc

Other countries, including Australia, have similar rules. It's tough for all those involved.

I have no problems with the way Thailand operates and to be honest I respect it in alot of ways, but where I draw the line is legal family units being second class and different from locals.

Nailed it in one mate, so why risk the chance of  increased spreading by allowing foreigners to enter ?

There was a thread somewhere (on this forum where someone) mentioned a 20min Covid-19 test.

That would pretty much solve any of the issues over night once distribution was available.

I'd be willing to put money on that Chinese and S Korean (possibly others) tourists will be allowed into Thailand by the end of June without restriction

What makes no sense ?

If a person is not allowed entry they cannot spread the virus..........seems pretty black and white to me.
